LEE, NH:  The 2017 Friday Night racing season opens this Friday with a five-division, 12-race program here at Lee USA Speedway starting at 7:00 pm. The winged super-modifieds lead the way with Friday night’s 30-lap feature winner picking up $1,000 and a quick lead in the NASCAR championship point standings for this year’s track title.

Dave Helliwell, last year’s track champ, has sold his car and joined the Bob and Ed Witkum team to drive the multi-time champion No. 21 super-mod. Helliwell, of Pelham, N.H., is only in his second season of driving the fast supers. He’ll have plenty of competition from arch-rival Tommy Tombarello,

of Haverhill, Mike Netishen, in a newly built No. 616, Mike Spurling, Dover, N.H., in his immaculate No. 61jr., and Moe Lattime, in the Dick Osborne No. 59 from Kingston, N.H.

Late Model sportsmen have a strong field entered with a 30-lap feature scheduled. Jimmy Renfrew, George and Billy Helliwell, Jimmy Russell, Jay Ryan, Jay Sands and Bobby Melvin are a few of the 25 drivers in that class.

The Hobby Stock, Ironman and Pure Stock divisions also will be in action. Practice starts at 5 p.m., the first qualifying heat at 7:00 pm and feature races at approximately 8:15 pm.
