Kendall Segar’s Killer Season
Continues Strong at The Whip

BY MARK McKEON

WESTFIELD, MA – After three years without a trip to victory lane, Kendall Segar is having a season that makes the working and waiting worthwhile. The 18 year old criminal justice student at Manchester (CT) Community College finished second in her heat and then went on to capture her third 270cc Mini Sprint feature of the year at Whip City Speedway.
“It was my kind of track -fast- but our car wasn’t superfast,” Segar said. “We’re having a killer season and I’m just so happy.”
Segar’s victory came in a 20 lap event that was slowed by only a single caution flag for a minor spin.
Luke Greenwood led every lap to win his first Whip City 600cc win of the year, while Joseph Szczapa did the same in the 1200cc class. Greenwood’s run to victory lane was interrupted by one brief caution flag, while Szczapa enjoyed a non-stop jaunt.
John Casazza’s victories in the 750cc heat and feature, earned him the lead in an extremely tight points battle. Shelby Klekotka’s second 750 Sportsman win was a green to checkers romp.
Ryan Nicewicz continued his annihilation of the Modified Lite competition with his sixth win and tenth podium finish of the year.
Scott Viets held off a determined charge from Joe Krawiec to pick up his third Quad 4 Midget win of the year. Denny Zimmermann finished a strong third.
Among those visiting the Whip City Speedway this week were former USAC, URC and ARDC competitor Jim Maguire, racing writer Dave Dykes and NEAR Hall of Fame member, the Dean of New England racing writers, Pete Zanardi.
Maguire will be competing in a Quad 4 Midget in the near future and Zanardi is preparing a feature article on Denny Zimmermann for a major national publication.
