Champions Crowned as Whip City Season Ends
BY MARK McKEON

WESTFIELD, MA – The last night of racing under the current management had the highest car count of the year as several competitors stopped by to say both hello and farewell.
The 750cc Mini Sprint points battle went down to the wire at the Whip and Flyin’ Phil Bessette’s heat race victory made all the difference in his winning the championship. Bessette won the championship with 1332 points to John Casazza’s 1312. Tyler Jackson won the feature.
Even a 12th place feature finish, couldn’t keep Ricci Hirth from winning another 600cc championship. Jay Coppo, another former champ, won the feature.
Seth Carlson’s second place feature finish, coupled with a heat race win, was enough to earn him the 270cc championship. Feature winner Kurt Conklin won the feature.
Jon Moore led 18 of the 20 lap 1200cc feature until contact sent him spinning and restarting from the back of the pack. His sixth place finish was more than good enough to earn him another championship. Race winner John Virgilio finished second in points.
The intense but friendly rivalry between Kyle Smith and Makayla Lucia continued until the final race of the year. They finished the 750 Sportsman feature 1-2, which is also how they finished in points.
Ryan Charland won the Modified Lite slugfest. Ryan Nicewicz had previously clinched the title.
Former Sprint Car pilot Scott Holcomb earned his first Quad 4 Midget feature and Joe Krawiec claimed the title.
