An all volunteer team headed by Tony True of Wiscasset and Dale Chadbourne of Woolwich have worked to put together the tracks first race of the 2011 season. True secured a lease agreement between all interested parties, allowing the event to take place on Saturday October 15th with a rain date on the 16th. Because of financial difficulty the track did not open this season and “there was concern that if we didn’t have one race the town noise ordinance could be changed” said True.

“This is going to be a Non-Profit event….with a twist. We will depend on sponsorship money to cover the necessary expenditures” True said. Admission will be $5.00 any age, pit or grandstand side. Depending on the spectator and driver turnout, sponsors will receive 100% of their sponsorship money and the remainder will be divided equally between all cars participating in the race. We are relying on drivers and fans alike to become “promoters” in order to make this happen.

Thus far over 80 drivers from Speedway 95, Oxford Plains Speedway 95, Unity Raceway and Beech Ridge have entered to race. The event so far has Pro Stock, Late Model Sportsman, Super Street, Strictly Streets, Outlaws, Stock 4, Pro4, Wildcat, Monsta Mini’s, Flying 4, Rebels, Trucks, Teens and 6 Cylinder Roadrunners. The Wicked Good Vintage Racers and Maine Mini Mods will also race. Special fun races will include a Burnout Contest, 1st time lady Powder Puff, Enduros, Flag Pole, Appliance and Trailer races.

The 1/3 of a mile high banked track originally was built by Wilford Cronk in 1968 and has run ever since. The business has hosted many major events over a span of 42 years, including the “Big Dawg” $100,000 to win race in early 2000, “The Coastal 200”, NEPSA championships, and many more. Maine drivers Ricky Craven, Stan Meserve, Andy Santerre began their race careers at tracks like Wiscasset. Fans by the thousands have visited the area because of the track. Drivers and race fans are from all walks of life and faithful to their sport. NASCAR draws 100,000 plus each weekend and small racetracks all over the country contribute their share of spectators too.
