The weather finally turned around for the North East Mini Stock Tour after a disappointing rainout on June 2nd at Waterford Speedbowl the sun was bright and skies were clear as 19 tour type mini stocks rolled into Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH.

As the first round of practice started NHMS winner and current NEMST point leader Mike Mason experienced car troubles that required him be pushed of the track. As the rest of the competitors dialed their machines in for the race a few fast stand outs prevailed from the pack to set the mark others were reaching for.

Once the rest of the divisions finished practice the NEMST officials held a drivers meeting and also revealed the starting lineup for the heats races according to draw. John Kelly was also drawn to win the Tater’s NASCAR Cash bonus of $70. The NEMST unveiled new Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour sweatshirts available and many fans and crew members purchased their copies.

The heat races went off without a hitch and Emerson Cayer from close by Contoocook, NH won the first heat also receiving the option to draw the inversion for the feature lineup. As the second heat race concluded John Kelly took home the top spot. Cayer’s draw resulted in a 1 row inversion putting Roger Ducharme and Danny Field on the front row for the 50 lap feature event.

The feature started with a bang on the first lap as the car of Louis Maher got turned on the back stretch and then hit head on by Justin King in the 48 car. The field was reverted back to the initial starting lineup. On the restart the field got up to speed smoothly and ran until the 20 lap mark when a spin in turn 2 resulted in the caution being waved. With the ensuing restart there was contact between the 28 and 60 resulting in the 28 bumping the turn 4 wall and having to be towed from the track.

As the halfway flags waved Emerson Cayer began to pull away from Danny Field an John Kelly. The field was slowed but a couple other cautions but the running order remained the same. Atlap 45 Emerson Cayer cleared the final lapped vehicle he would encounter and hold on for his first win of the 2012 season and tie him for the record of overall wins in the NEMST with 2010 champion Chris McKinstry.

The rest of the top 5 included Danny Field, John Kelly, Billy Osborne, and Shawn Swallow for his 2nd top 5 in as many races. John Kelly climbed to the top of the point standings while previous point leader Mike Mason’s disappointing finish forced him back to the 4th points position.
