Newcastle’s Charlie Colby won the 50-lap Pro Series feature event. On a late race restart, Colby battled side-by-side with Tyler King, of Livermore Falls, for five laps until he was able to edge King going into the first turn.

Mike Landry, of Oakland, paced the 22-car field to the green flag and was able to take the lead going into turn one. Landry and veteran Steve Carrier, of Saco, battled for the top spot until Carrier was able to edge Landry on lap four.

Carrier opened up his lead over Landry until a caution on lap eight bunched the field back together. On the restart, Carrier choose the outside lane and it proved successful as he was able to re-claim the lead. Carrier and Landry battled nose to tail and pulled away from the rest of the field over the short green flag run.

A caution on lap 23 proved devastating for veteran Carrier as he had to retire early from the event due to apparent mechanical failure. Landry now faced 19-year old Tyler King, of Livemore Falls, on the restart. Landry took the lead coming out of the fourth turn and led until a caution on lap 31.

Landry and King were set for battle again on the restart, however this time King was able to take the top spot from Landry and opened up a sizable lead over him. Newcastle’s Charlie Colby marched his way up inside the top three by lap 40, and started to chase down both King and Landry. By lap 43, Colby had surpassed Landry and started on King.

A late race caution on lap 44 set up for a six lap shootout between King and Colby. On the restart, King and Colby battled side-by-side for two laps until Colby was able to pass King coming out of the second turn. Colby led the remaining laps and went on for his first win since August, 2013.

Racing resumes next Saturday June 28th, at 7pm with more NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action featuring the Sport Series, and a special 50-lap Wildcat feature event along with a 125-lap Pro Series feature event.
