TSMP to Welcome Mike Joy as Honored Guest at Vintage Motorsports Festival

THOMPSON, CT – This weekend – June 27-29 – celebrates the grand re-opening of Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s (TSMP) road course, and the 74 year history of the track with the inaugural Vintage Motorsports Festival. This three-day event would not be complete without one of today’s top TV sports announcers, and Vintage automotive enthusiast, Mike Joy, who grew his career at Thompson Speedway 40 years ago.

Mike Joy, who currently serves as the lap-by-lap voice of Fox Sports’ NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage, began his public address work at New England racetracks including Riverside Park Speedway, Thompson Speedway and Stafford Motor Speedway in the early seventies. Announcing regularly five nights a week, he was eventually picked up by MRN (Motor Racing News). Other highlights in his career include being lead broadcaster for ESPN’s first live NASCAR telecast in the Atlanta Journal 500 at Atlanta International Raceway, and covering Fox’s Formula 1 broadcast in 1998. He was also voted the 2011 recipient of the Henry T McLemore Award, given annually to award career excellence in motorsports journalism.

As a guest of the track, Mike Joy will be attending the historic event at Thompson Speedway on Saturday. “We are thrilled to have Mike Joy as a speaker at the dinner of our inaugural Vintage Motorsports Festival,” Josh Vanada, General Manager of TSMP stated. “His history with Thompson and his love of Vintage sports cars make him a perfect fit.”
