Thunder Road Hits Home Stretch with WDEV/Calkins Night

Barre, VT – Barre’s own Thunder Road International Speedbowl hits the home stretch for its 2014 season this Thursday, July 31 with WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets night. Thursday night will close out the month of July leaving just four more Thursdays plus the Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic in August to decide the 2014 Late Model “King of the Road.”

Two-time Late Model Champion and 2014 Vermont Governor’s Cup winner Nick Sweet of Barre currently sits atop the standings by a slim three-point lead over another two-time “King of the Road” Dave Pembroke. Pembroke is looking toward this Thursday to claim his first win of the season and erase the three-point deficit. Defending Thunder Road track champion Derrick O’Donnell and this year’s Times-Argus Mid-Season Champion Trampas Demers ride just eight points behind Pembroke, while outstanding rookie driver Eric Badore holds the final top five spot.

Waterbury’s Jason Woodard continues his stranglehold on the top spot in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen division but remains winless so far this season. Tommy “Thunder” Smith of Williamstown paces the Allen Lumber Street Stocks with the help of two feature wins so far in 2014.

This Thursday, July 31 is WEDV/Calkins Portable Toilets night featuring the Late Models, Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, Allen Lumber Street Stocks plus the annual Porta-Potty Grand Prix. Post time is 6:30pm with the front gates opening at 5:00pm. Admission is just $12 for adults, $3 for kids (ages 6 to 12), kids under age 6 are free and a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids) is just $25.
