McKnight, Lescord First Time Winners at Monadnock Speedway

WINCHESTER, NH – Barry Gray earned the biggest win of the night Saturday, August 9, at Monadnock Speedway; holding all challengers in his shadow for 100 laps to capture the JBH 100 main event.

But while the veteran Pro Stock wheelsman took home the night’s largest pay check, Whelen All-American Series chauffeurs Kevin McKnight and Tyler Lescord will each always remember the night’s biggest prize as being his. McKnight, Mini Stocks, and Lescord, Super Stocks, each scored his first career victory on the high banks.

Sportsman Modified strongman Todd Patnode rocketed to his seventh victory of the summer Saturday, and Thunder Stock ace Dave Greenslit earned his sixth victory lap. Chris Davis won for the third time this season in the Lightning Stocks, and Young Gun Hailey Guy was victorious for the second time.

Gray led the potent 19-car Granite State Pro Stock Series field to the green to start the night’s 100-lap main event. The former Monadnock champ, a winner of scores of feature races on the legendary high-banked speedplant, never looked back en route to mirroring his victory of last year’s first annual JBH 100.

Matt Frahm and Tommy O’Sullivan were glued to Gray’s bumper for most of the way, with Frahm looking both high and low without success for a path to the front for more than 80 laps. And though O’Sullivan would spin in turn two on lap 88, with Frahm then rejoining him at the back of the pack on the ensuing restart, Gray would still have his hands full.
Dillon Moltz and Erick Sands quickly took up pursuit of the speedy Gray but, only seven laps later, they too would refire from the end of the line, Gray then put the final five laps quickly away to take the checkers five lengths ahead of Derek Griffith.
With Griffith posting his best GSPSS finish of the season in second, Frahm completed his final-12-lap charge back through the field to claim third. Russ Hersey, solid all night, came home fourth.
Rookie Trevor Bleau led the first 25 laps of the Sportsman Modified feature. Kimmy Rivet held second for the first six laps, then giving way to Bill Kimball, who would ride there until Scott MacMichael muscled past him on lap 17.
Bleau’s ride at the front would end in a cloud of tire smoke for the third week in a row when he sailed into the backstretch wall on lap 25, ricocheting back across the track and collecting Bill Kimball along the way.
With Bleau and MacMichael refiring from the back of the pack, and Kimball done for the night, Todd Patnode quickly took charge and never looked back, roaring off to his seventh win of the summer. Steady Brian Chapin was second, Steve Fifield third, Keith Carzello fourth, and rookie Kimmy Rivet fifth.
Tyler Lescord wired the Super Stock feature to earn his first career Monadnock win. While Lescord was always at the front, he never had much breathing room.
Geoff Rollins powered into second on lap three, and would ride under a blanket with Lescord the rest of the way before settling for the night’s runner-up finish. Rollins took a hard look under Lescord along the backstretch on the final lap, but had to fall back in line and hold onto second, just ahead of Robert Hagar. Tom Carey III was fourth, and Tyler Leary came home fifth.
Like Lescord, Kevin McKnight would lead every lap of his feature race and, like Lescord, would be under heavy fire all the way. Beth Adams rode in McKnight’s shadow for the final 15 laps of the Mini Stock feature but, on this night, McKnight was perfect.
The victory was McKnight’s first top-three finish in four years of competition in the potent Mini Stock class. Chris McTaggart made a last-corner pass to steal second from Adams. Joel Monahan was fourth on the night, and Eric Pomasko came home fifth.
Hailey Guy led all 15 laps of the Young Gun feature, racing wheel-to-wheel with her brother Devin the first eight laps, and then holding off Solomon Brow and Mike McGoldrick Jr. the rest of the way.
Brow continued his string of strong runs by earning the runner-up finish. McGoldrick was third, Justin Littlewood fourth, and Colton Smith came home fifth.
Kyle Boniface spun out the lead, with help, on lap 19 of the Lightning Stock feature, with Chris Davis then inheriting the lead and never looking back en route to his third win of the summer. Tim Paquette was second, Pat Houle third, and Hillary Renaud and Eric Silvernale rounded out the top five.
Jason Barden led lap one of the Thunder Stock feature, giving way to Henry Martin the next trip around the high banks. Martin would hold the top spot until lap 14, when Dave Greenslit inched ahead.
Once in front, Greenslit would never look back, speeding off to his sixth win of the summer, ahead of Paul Barnard, Marshall Usher, Martin and Barden.
This Saturday, August 16, Monadnock Speedway will host a five-division card of Whelen All-American Series racing. Post time is 6 p.m.
