Barre, VT – Barre’s own Nick Sweet pocketed his 13th career Thunder Road Late Model feature win during WDEV/Calkins night on Thursday, July 31. Sweet flew through the field from his 12th starting position and moved around Shawn Fleury with just under ten laps to go to take his second win of the 2014 season and help solidify his spot at the top of the standings.
Fleury settled for second while Derrick O’Donnell scored his second straight podium finish in third. Eric Chase earned fourth while Boomer Morris claimed fifth after leading early in the 50 lap event, which saw just one caution. Trampas Demers, Phil Scott, Jason Allen, Scott Dragon and Cody Blake completed the top ten.
Rookie Caleb Nelson of Moretown claimed his first career Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature leading the 35 lap caution free feature wire-to-wire. Mike Martin battled his way from sixth to earn the runner-up spot while Darrell Morin completed the podium. Brendan Moodie and Joe Steffen rounded out the top five while Jeff Bousquet, point leader Jason Woodard, Mark Barnier, Dylan Payea and Eric Johnson all earned top ten finishes.
Kevin Dodge of Barre held on for his second career Allen Lumber Street Stock event. He started on the outside pole and led most of the event but had to hold off Kyle Streeter on the final restart to take the win. Patrick Tibbetts picked up his first career podium finish in third. Jamon Perry and Thomas Merchant rounded out the top five. Gary Mullen, Jeremy Colson, Alan Maynard, Marcel Gravel and Bunker Hodgdon were the remainder of the top ten.
Jason Woodard took home the win for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen in the annual Porta-Potty Grand Prix event held during intermission. He outran Late Model representative Dave Pembroke and Tommy Smith from the Street Stocks.
Coming up this Sunday, August 3 is the 30th running of the M&M Beverage Enduro plus the Allen Lumber Street Stock 50 lap special. Post time for Street Stock qualifying will be 6:00pm. The 200-lap “People’s Race” will be run following the Street Stock feature.
All three divisions will be back in action next Thursday, August 7 with Cody Chevrolet Cadillac night. The event will feature 100 laps for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen as well as regular feature events for the Late Models and Street Stocks.
