325In just ten short days, race cars and drivers from throughout the Midwest will descend on Rockford Speedway for one of the longest running and most prestigious post-season racing events anywhere.

Beginning Friday September 26, the 49th Annual National Short Track Championships (NSTC) once again takes center stage on Rockford Speedway’s famed high banks. The 2014 installment of ‘One Great Racing Weekend’ boasts another full line up, featuring a diverse docket of racing.

The weekend begins Friday night with six trophies up for grabs and the crowning of the 2014 Gilley’s ‘Cool 5’ champions. Friday night’s racing is headlined by the 49 lap Weekly Warrior Late Model feature and also includes the Sportsman, American Short Trackers and Roadrunners running 40 lap features. Complementing those four divisions will be the 25 lap ‘Bandit Challenge’ and a 15 lap Figure 8 showdown. Racing begins Friday night at 7:07 PM.

Saturday September 27 is the busiest day of ‘One Great Racing Weekend,’ with six divisions in action and five championship feature races. Saturday is the first day for Super Late Model racing at NSTC, featuring qualifying and preliminary events for all the Super Late Models plus full programs for the Big 8 Late Model Series, Mid American Stock Car Series, Great Northern Sportsman Series, Illini Midgets and Hobby Stox. The Big 8 Late Model Series highlights ‘Short Track Saturday Night’ with a 108 lap feature race, while the Mid American, Great Northern Sportsman and Illini Midgets all running 50 lap feature events while Hobby Stox end the night with a 30 lapper. The green flag drops on ‘Short Track Saturday Night’ at 5:05 PM.

‘Championship Sunday’ brings the ‘World’s Fastest Short Track Show’ to NSTC, as the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Cars take to Rockford Speedway for the first time In three years. Nearly 20 of the winged wonders, including track record holder and two-time Little 500 winner Jacob Wilson and local favorite Tim Cox lead the Sprinters back to Rockford. The mega-weekend comes to a close with the traditional running of the 200 lap ‘National Short Track Championship’ Super Late Model race, where Eddie Hoffman looks to pocket his fifth NSTC and hold off challengers like Steve Apel, Michael Bilderback, James Swan, Steve Rubeck and Casey Johnson. Racing begins Sunday at 12:30 PM.
