vlf_5554(Thompson, CT) – 17 year-old Derek Griffith and the Griffith race team is excited to be competing at the 2014 World Series, at the prestigious Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Oct 17-19.
Griffith, a Hudson, NH native will complete his third full season with the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) by racing in their season finale 50-lap race. Derek currently sits fourth in the point’s battle, just 38 points out of the top spot.

“Our focus to this point has been consistent finishes and the World Series is no different. Don’t get me a wrong, a win would be great, in front of the big crowd at Thompson but you need to finish, to win, so that’s our goal” said Griffith.

Derek most recently competed at Lee USA Speedway’s Oktoberfest event, held on Oct 12th and finished the 50-lap Pro Stock race on the podium, in the third position. Derek talked briefly about that race. “We had a great car, going from 11th to 3rd and racing against some great talent is all you can really ask for. The MOM’s of Manchester Toyota Camry was very strong through the corners and that’s a result of Louie’s [Crew Chief Louie Mechalides] set-up.

Also noteworthy is that Griffith will also be competing at the Thompson World Series race against long-time friend of Crew Chief Mechalides, Jason Boyd. One of the premier stock car drivers in the Florida area, Boyd is making the trip up to Thompson and will pilot a Louie Mechalides prepared Pro-Stock.“It’s going to be awesome to race with Jason; Louie and Jason have raced and won at New Smyrna Speedway during Speedweeks, he’s one of the best”, remarked Griffith.
