vmrslogo1Thompson, CT. – 24-year old Steve Masse of Bellingham, Mass, wired the field Saturday night, besting a field of 31 other drivers to capture his second win of 2014, his ninth career Valenti Modified Racing Series victory, and his first at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Thompson, Connecticut.

Another first occurred when Justin Bonsignore, of Holtsville, New York, nabbed his VMRS championship for car-owner Art Barry of Preston, CT. The title is Barry’s second with the series.

The event, the 17th and final race of the season, was part of the 52nd annual Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart.

Masse led the entire 75-lap race from his pole starting position. Woody Pitkat, of Stafford, CT, Richard Savary, of Canton, MA, and Keith Rocco, of Wallingford, CT, gave chase but Masse was in command throughout the race.

Pitkat finished runner-up, Rocco, third, Savary fourth, and Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, rounded out the top five.

Ted Christopher, David Schneider, Eric Goodale, Mike Willis Jr, and Dylan Kopec, finished sixth through tenth.

The final race of the season saw 32-teams compete with all entries starting the feature race. Six caution flags slowed the main event completed in 57 minutes.
