Oxford, ME – DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM team returned to Oxford Plains Speedway this past weekend for the start of the new Pro All Stars Series North season. After driving what Shaw described early in the day as an ill handling car, he put on an epic show with the “Maine Racing Legend,” Mike Rowe for the win, and started the season with a strong second place effort.

“We weren’t good enough on the short runs there at the end,” Shaw recounted of his effort, “I feel like we had the better car, but getting to Mike and passing him are two different things. He earned this one and after the struggles we had in practice with this new car I’m really happy with the second place run.”

Shaw and Rowe battled during their heat race to give the fans a preview of what was to come, with Shaw placing in second. Starting the 150 lap feature event from the sixth position, Shaw worked methodically through the top five, saving his tires for the finish. After Rowe grabbed the lead just before halfway, Shaw made his march to the second spot and closed in on the red #7 car for the lead. Diving inside and outside trying to set up a race winning pass, the two competitors drove each other hard until a yellow flew with just ten laps to go. After going through two restarts to end the race, Shaw go right back to the bumper of Rowe on the final lap and made a run to the bottom going into turn three, the two drove without making contact to the finish, and Shaw finished in the runner up position in a race that many fans called one of the most thrilling they had seen at the famed 3/8th mile track.

After a great start to his title defense, Shaw now sets his sights on race number two at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in two weeks. Shaw won this race two years ago and finished fourth in last year’s event. Couple that with the fact that Shaw finished runner up in last September’s PASS 300 at Beech Ridge and it’s easy to see why Shaw is one of the favorites leading into the next race. The race will be run on May 2nd. Support your local short track and get to Beech Ridge for a great day of racing!
