International Speedway.

The driver and crew chief of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) enter the 2011 Nationwide Series season with a similar mindset Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had in 1803, when President Thomas Jefferson asked them to explore what is now the western part of the United States: “We’re not really sure what we’re getting into here, but we’ll figure it out as quickly as possible and adjust as need be.”

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Takes Goodyear Speedweeks Cup Win on ACT’s First Night at New Smyrna Speedway

New Smyrna, FL – Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. continued his hot streak on the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) with a win in Sunday’s Goodyear Speedweeks Cup feature at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Florida. Polewarczyk had to hold off St-Denis, Quebec’s Patrick Laperle for the win.

After starting on the outside pole, Polewarczyk quickly jumped out to a large lead, while Laperle worked his way through the field from his ninth place starting position. A caution on lap 34 gave Laperle his first shot at Polewarczyk. The two battle for the lead before another caution came out on lap 41 for a hard hit into the front stretch wall by East Montpelier, Vermont’s Joey Laquerre.

Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, rallied to finish 11th in the first race of the inaugural ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Sunday, February 13. A second-year ACT Late Model Tour competitor, the 17-year-old Theriault qualified inside the Top-5 and battled his way to the top half of the field in his first race with RPM Motorsports after encountering mechanical woes. Theriault was racing for position inside the Top-10 when his No. 57 Varney Insurance Agency Ford Fusion abruptly shut off, forcing him to park on the track’s apron without power on Lap 34. He refired the car, started shotgun on the 27-car field and ran up to 11th with the benefit of just two caution flags. Theriault will join the field for a second straight night on Monday, February 14, with another 100-lap event as part of the 45th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Multi-time ACT Late Model Tour champion Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., finished sixth in the first race of the inaugural ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Sunday, February 13. A seven-time series champion, Hoar started seventh in the 27-car field and moved as high as fifth on a mid-race restart. He never ran lower than ninth place at any point in the event, but he did suffer damage to the right side of the No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger that he said likely had an effect on tire wear and handling. Hoar will join the field for a second straight night on Monday, February 14, with another 100-lap event as part of the 45th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, N.H., won the first race of the inaugural ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Sunday, February 13. Polewarczyk, who started second in the 100-lap ACT Late Model Tour event, dominated by leading three times for a total of 77 laps. It was Polewarczyk’s fourth straight win in ACT competition dating back to last September in the No. 97 Pole’s Automotive Ford Fusion, and he held off Patrick Laperle over the final laps for the victory. Polewarczyk, 21, took the lead for the final time following a Lap 61 restart by using the high groove to his advantage on the high-banked half-mile. He’ll join the field for a second straight night on Monday, February 14, with another 100-lap event as part of the 45th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Hendrick Motorsports teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon secured the starting spots on the coveted front row for 53rd running of “The Great American Race” Sunday afternoon during Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented by Kroger.

Earnhardt wheeled his No. 88 AMP Energy Chevrolet around the 2.5-mile tri-oval for a fast lap of 186.089 mph to capture his first pole at the “World Center of Racing” in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
