Season opener at High Voltage MX on tap for Rock Maple Racing
Regional cross-country tour gears up for 6th season

HAMPSTEAD, New Hampshire (Jan. 22, 2021) — Officials at Rock Maple Racing (RMR) are excited to kick off their sixth season of cross-country snowmobile racing on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the popular High Voltage MX facility in Greig, New York.

This venue offers great terrain and ample room for a challenging course layout. Grieg is located in upstate New York’s snowbelt. Series officials regret the late start to this abbreviated season yet have been working behind the scenes in an attempt to provide teams a chance to compete in a safe manner.

“State-enforced restrictions put in place by this awful pandemic have been a challenge for our host sites,” RMR owner and president Tara Saxton said. “It was sad to see our races in Rangeley (Snodeo) and Sherman (Gould Farms) get canceled, but we understand. I’m just grateful that some places will allow us to race.”

On Saturday, Feb. 13, RMR teams will return to the friendly confines of the Young Farms in West Glover, Vermont. Last winter, the series visited this excellent venue with a spectacular view on two occasions. With a lack of snow in most of the region, Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom came through.

Like so many other business entities across the country, the ‘unknown factors’ brought on by the pandemic are affecting our great sport. When host sites are limited in number of spectators allowed and have other stringent guidelines to follow, any chance for profitability or raising funds for a club vanish.

A distinct lack of natural snowfall here in northern New England has also been an issue for host sites. Unlike most winters, even the upper elevations of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have had limited or no recreational snowmobiling as of this date. It has, by all measures, been a tough year.

Regional race teams continue to gear up for the opener in Greig. Fewer races simply puts more emphasis on the events that are held. There will be no ‘mulligans,’ every lap will be critical in 2021.
