{"id":21812,"date":"2017-06-19T21:54:22","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T01:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/?p=21812"},"modified":"2017-06-19T21:54:22","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T01:54:22","slug":"first-pass-super-late-model-win-for-derek-griffith-in-hight-chevrolet-150-at-speedway-95","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/2017\/06\/first-pass-super-late-model-win-for-derek-griffith-in-hight-chevrolet-150-at-speedway-95\/","title":{"rendered":"First PASS Super Late Model win for Derek Griffith in Hight Chevrolet 150 at Speedway 95"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_17297\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17297\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17297\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/600-DSC_6177-e1497901463644.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo by Norm Marx<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Hermon, Maine \u2013<\/strong> Derek Griffith of Hudson, New Hampshire nailed down his first-ever Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model victory Sunday afternoon in the Hight Chevrolet Buick GMC 150 at Speedway 95 in Hermon, Maine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Griffith and his LCM Motorsports 12 car pulled away from the pack in the closing laps after an unusually-competitive battle saw five different drivers lead \u2013 many on more than one occasion \u2013 over the first 100 circuits of the tricky, 1\/3-mile oval track.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When the time came to seal the victory, Griffith, who started third, had plenty of car and rubber left to fend off all challenges and earn that first PASS Super Late Model triumph.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Former PASS champion Travis Benjamin of Morrill gave Griffith his toughest test in the waning laps, earning runner-up honors in the Belfast Variety 7, and staying close to the championship points leaders in a tight championship battle.\u00a0 Scarborough\u2019s Garrett Hall took a couple of turns leading the Hight 150 before eventually crossing the line in third position in his NAPA-sponsored 94.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DJ Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire, the reigning PASS North Super Late Model champion, was the only driver among the top six finishers who did not lead a lap.\u00a0 Shaw started 12<sup>th<\/sup> in the Precision JLM 60 and ended up in fourth position.\u00a0 Local, self-sponsored landscaper and paver Mike Hopkins of Hermon raced hard with the leaders, led the race on several occasions and claimed a hard-earned, fifth-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cassius Clark of Farmington also set the pace aboard the Hight 77, finishing up in sixth position. Dave Farrington of Jay, Glen Luce of Turner and Ellsworth\u2019s Andy Saunders were the last three cars on the lead lap, in seventh through ninth finishing positions, respectively.\u00a0 Frankfort\u2019s Bobby Seger rounded out the top ten.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Benjamin and Hopkins prevailed in the 12-lap <a href=\"http:\/\/clarksscrapmetals.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/clarksscrapmetals.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1497987192573000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFi0TK6l7XdfH_VNky6w6wXVxMcAQ\">clarksscrapmetals.com<\/a> heat races that set the grid for the Hight 150 Super Late Model finale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ben Tinker of New Gloucester won his fifth straight PASS Mods 40-lapper, but it took a bit of racing luck to keep the streak alive after dominant performances in the first four events this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Andy Shaw, the five-time series champion from Center Conway, New Hampshire, held a half-straightaway lead when a late-race caution flag put Tinker alongside for a restart with three laps to go.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tinker prevailed, Shaw earned runner-up honors, and local favorite Scott Alexander of Glenburn filled out the podium.\u00a0 Bruce Helmuth of Wales posted a fourth-place finish, with Lebanon\u2019s Mike Carignan rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Austin Teras of Windham raced to an impressive victory in a 20-lap race for INEX Legends Cars.\u00a0 Belmont\u2019s Colby Benjamin claimed runner-up honors, with Bryan Lancaster of Skowhegan claiming the third-place trophy.\u00a0 Charlie Buxton of Windham was credited with a fouth-place finish, ahead of Nova Scotia competitor Austin MacDonald.\u00a0 Teras also won the heat race.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The next Pro All Stars Series North Super Late Model event is set for <span data-term=\"goog_715856593\">Friday, June 23<\/span> at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire.\u00a0 For more information visit <a href=\"http:\/\/proallstarsseries.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/proallstarsseries.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1497987192573000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHtUTaPUjehAA8AoFkO77iN8VQUkQ\">proallstarsseries.com<\/a> or call <a href=\"tel:(207)%20539-8865\">(207) 539-8865<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Results from the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model race at Speedway 95;
