(Alan Ward photo)

Barre, Vt. – Hometown driver Jason Corliss captured his second Thunder Road Late Model win of the season on Thursday, July 20, taking the lead just past the halfway point and holding on for the win on FairPoint Communications Night.

Corliss threaded his way through the field from his 11th starting position before a lap-27 caution brought him alongside polesitter Boomer Morris. After grabbing the lead on the restart, Corliss outgunned point leader Bobby Therrien in the closing circuits for his sixth career win.

Morris dominated the early stages of the event as Cody Blake, Kyle Pembroke and a pack of cars behind them dueled for second. Corliss managed to worked his way through to the second spot just a lap before Blake and Ricky Roberts tangled fighting for the third spot. Pembroke fell off the pace on the first attempt at the ensuing restart with a flat right-front tire that took him out of contention.

Corliss had to survive one more caution on lap 35 when Mike Foster, Pembroke, and Roberts got together in turn four. Hinesburg’s Therrien, who was going for the Maplewood Triple Crown after winning his heat and the semi-feature, got under Morris for second on the restart but was unable to chase down the leader.

Therrien finished second after starting 15th on the grid to pad his point lead. South Burlington’s Trampas Demers made a late charge to finish third by inches over Morris. Marcel J. Gravel, Scott Dragon, Eric Badore, Darrell Morin, Tyler Cahoon, and Eric Chase also earned top-10 finishes.

Craftsbury Common’s Mike Martin dominated the Myers Container Services Triple Crown event for his first Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger win of the season. Martin started sixth and, with the help of a pair of early cautions, made quick work of the field to take the lead on lap three of the 75-lap feature. He then walked away from the field for his eighth career Tiger victory.

Hinesburg’s Trevor Lyman took second over Morrisville’s Dwayne Lanphear. Joel Hodgdon, point leader Brendan Moodie, Mike Billado, Jason Woodard, Jaden Perry, Tyler Austin, and Jamon Perry rounded out the top-10.

Waitsfield’s Kevin Streeter captured his third win of the season in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Streeter grabbed the lead on the opening circuit of the 25-lap feature and easily held on through the race’s only caution on lap-10 to cruise to the victory.

Duxbury’s Peyton Lanphear passed Tunbridge’s Gary Mullen in the closing laps for second. Brandon Lanphear inherited the fourth spot after Matthew Smith was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Point leader Jamie Davis, Dean Switser Jr., Alan Maynard, Reilly Lanphear, Cooper Bouchard, and Logan Powers completed the top-10.

Barre’s Jeffrey Martin was the winner in the season debut for the Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. Martin darted to the front from his ninth starting spot, maintaining the lead through the race’s only caution on lap 16 and taking the victory in the 20-lap event.

Fellow Barre driver Tyler Pepin took second with Littleton, N.H.’s Ryan Ware third. Doug Duffy Jr., Edward Bowen Jr., James Dopp, Nathan Woodworth, Eric Young, Frank Putney, and Taylor Keene finished fourth through 10th.

Thunder Road next gears up for the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships on Thursday, July 27 at 7:00pm.
