Porter, Larivee get first Speedbowl wins. Harkin, Blaskey, Caddick also
\nvisit winner\u2019s circle<\/p>\n

WATERFORD \u2013 Jon Porter was the winner of the Limited Sportsman feature.
\nMaddie Harkin won the Bandolero feature. Mike Blaskey won the Legend car
\nfeature, his 2nd in a row. Corey Caddick won the X-Car feature, also his
\nsecond in a row. Jason Larivee Jr. was a first time winner in the Super
\nX Car feature.
\n<\/p>\n

Jon Porter had spent 17 days in second place after the season-opening
\nSportsman race, which started on May 6, was suspended by rain after nine
\nof 30 laps were completed. When the race finally resumed on Wednesday as
\npart of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl’s Wild and Wacky Wednesday
\nprogram, it didn’t take Porter long to do something about it.
\n He dive-bombed underneath Phil Evans with 15 laps to go en route to his
\nfirst ever 30-lap Sportsman win, It was also the first win for John
\nBrower as a car owner.
\n\u201cThe car was great,\u201d Porter said. \u201cIt started getting loose at the end,
\nbut I just held on and drove as hard as I could.\u201d
\nWhen the race resumed on lap 10, Evans moved into the lead, but couldn\u2019t
\npull away from Porter, who was locked in on the inside groove.
\nEvans held on for second, but he said that he had a better car on May 6
\nthan he did Wednesday.
\n\u201cI thought we had Porter covered before the rains came,\u201d Evans said.
\n\u201cThose things happen. We were way too tight on entry tonight.\u201d
\nBo Norman survived a fierce battle with Evans to finish third.
\nPorter\u2019s win was just one of the highlights on Wild and Wacky Wednesday
\nopening night.
\nCorey Caddick continued his hot streak in the X-Car division, opening up
\nthe season with his second straight win 25-lap. Caddick was able to take
\nthe lead away late in the race from T.J. Racicot, who finished second
\nfor his first ever Speedbowl podium. Mike Trask, who came out of a
\nfive-year retirement, finished third..
\nJason Larivee was able to bob and weave his way through traffic in the
\n25-lap Super-X car feature, taking the lead from Don Berge late in the
\nrace to get the win. Opening night winner Ray Reed suffered through a
\nnight he would like to forget.. A broken ball joint relegated him to a
\n10th place finish.
\nIt was Larivee’s first Speedbowl win.
\nBud Kuehne was the early leader, but when he spun, Larivee had his
\nopportunity.
\n\u201cI was able to get by a lot of cars when that happened,\u201d Larivee said.
\n\u201cThen I just forged ahead.\u201d
\nThere was one nervous moment when Reed made contact with Larivee late in
\nthe race. But the winner just shrugged it off.
\n\u201cRay did get into me, but I think he eliminated himself,\u201d Larivee said.
\nMike Blaskey was able to hold off John O’Sullivan and Joey Ternullo
\nduring a mind-boggling final lap to get his second consecutive 25-lap
\nLegends win. All three drivers had a chance to win the race on the final
\nlap, but Blaskey hugged the inside lane and was able to hang on to win
\nby the length of a sunflower seed. O\u2019Sullivan was second and Ternullo
\nthird.
\n\u201cI had John O’Sullivan to my outside and Joey banging my back bumper,\u201d
\nBlaskey said. \u201c said. \u201cIt doesn’t get better than that.\u201d
\nMaddie Harkin dominated every lap of the Bandolero race for her fourth
\ncareer Speedbowl win.
\nRacing resumes Saturday at 5 p.m. with the Full Fender Throwdown,
\nsponsored by Belltown Motors and Belltown Recycling.
\nThe Late Model division at the Speedbowl will be the feature attraction,
\ncompeting in three 25 lap features. The visiting Granite State Pro
\nStocks will be doing triple duty as well in three 35-lap features. There
\nalso will be features for the Sportsmen, the Mini-Stocks, the Truck
\nSeries and the 375 Sportsman Tour.<\/p>\n
