A pit area full of race cars is expected for a special 6:30pm post time with all four of the track’s exciting classes ready to give lessons to their competition.

The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers are ready to double up on Thursday with two features scheduled. They open the program with their Casella Waste Systems main event that was postponed following qualifying two weeks ago. A second feature will follow later in the evening as part of the CCV program.

With the Tiger season at the quarter-pole, it’s currently a two-man dance for the top spot. Morrisville’s Dwayne Lanphear continues to lead the way as the veteran guns for his second track championship. Craftsbury’s Joel Hodgdon has kept things close by scoring top-5 finishes at every event.

But two features in one night means there will be two chances for other top racers to close the gap. Veterans Trevor Lyman of Hinesburg, Joe Steffen of Grand Isle, and Derrick Calkins of Milton would all make big gains with a hot CCV night. Sophomores Jason Pelkey of Barre and Tyler Austin of E. Calais have been strong to start the year and will try to stay on point.

Lanphear’s son Brandon has entered the mix with first- and third-place finishes at the last two events. Last week’s winner Kyle Streeter of Waitsfield has an excellent chance to go back-to-back as he will start outside pole in the Casella make-up feature. Just 14 points separate third-place Pelkey from ninth-place Mike Billado, meaning some serious shuffling is sure to happen Thursday.

A full card of thrilling racing for the Maplewood/Irving Late Models, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors is also on the agenda. South Burlington’s Trampas Demers and Barre’s Jason Corliss both had big nights last week, scoring victories in the Late Model double features. The duo now sit 1-2 in the standings as each one chases their first “King of the Road” title.

Barre’s Cody Blake was caught up in a crash in the second feature but retained the third spot overall. Fifteen-year-old Evan Hallstrom of Northfield has sailed to fourth in the Late Model ranks after a runner-up in last week’s nightcap. Milton’s Scott Dragon sits one point behind Hallstrom and looks like a threat to challenge for his second track championship.

Essex Jct.’s Matthew Smith continues to rule the Street Stock division with two wins and two runner-up finishes already this year. Barre’s Jeffrey Martin now stands as Smith’s closest challenger after taking the win in the Twin State Street Stock Series opener. Youngsters Logan Powers and Stephen Martin sit third and fourth followed by Tim Hunt. Defending champion Jamie Davis took a tumble in the standings after an opening-lap wreck on Thursday and is looking for a return to form.

The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors will be hot to trot on Thursday as James Dopp, Frank Putney, Jayme Lee and the rest of the class hit the track for their first feature in a month. The 3rd Annual Vermont Brewer’s Cup rounds out the program as the state’s top craft brewers battle it out to be the “Fastest Brewer in Vermont”.

The first green flag of Community College of Vermont Night will fly at 6:30pm this Thursday, June 28. Admission is just $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids). The front gates will open at 4:45pm.

Double the Tiger Action on Tap at Packed CCV Night Barre, VT – Barre’s Thunder Road will be full speed ahead this Thursday, June 28 at Community College of Vermont Night.
