{"id":25120,"date":"2019-05-22T08:42:54","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T12:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/?p=25120"},"modified":"2019-05-22T08:42:56","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T12:42:56","slug":"king-of-dirt-racing-crate-modified-series-opens-at-devils-bowl-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/2019\/05\/king-of-dirt-racing-crate-modified-series-opens-at-devils-bowl-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"King of Dirt Racing Crate Modified Series Opens at Devil\u2019s Bowl Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>King of Dirt Racing Crate Modified Series Opens at Devil\u2019s Bowl Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/devilsbowl_newlogo_horizontal_color-1024x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20405\" width=\"276\" height=\"56\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/devilsbowl_newlogo_horizontal_color-1024x211.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/devilsbowl_newlogo_horizontal_color-300x62.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/devilsbowl_newlogo_horizontal_color-768x158.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/devilsbowl_newlogo_horizontal_color-1080x223.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WEST HAVEN, Vt. \u2013 The King of Dirt Racing (KOD) Crate Modified Series is ready to go.&nbsp; The KOD tour opens its fifth season on Sunday at Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway, as A-Verdi Storage &amp; Office Solutions presents the \u201cMemorial Day Kickoff 50\u201d as part of a huge holiday event at the Vermont track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 50-lapper has a purse of $1,750 to win, plus the \u201cAndy\u2019s Bounty\u201d \u2013 a $250 certificate from Andy\u2019s Speed Shop \u2013 to bring the winner\u2019s total take to $2,000.&nbsp; The runner-up will earn $800 and a certificate for a free Hoosier Racing Tire valued at $200, while third place takes $500 and a $200 Hoosier certificate; the 10<sup>th<\/sup>-place driver will take $250, and the last-place finisher (30<sup>th<\/sup>) will receive $150.&nbsp; In addition, all drivers who do not qualify for the main event will receive $75 tow money.&nbsp; The race entry form is just $20 per driver with a $35 pit pass, and no membership license is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connor Cleveland and Josh Sunn appear to be the men to beat at the A-Verdi Memorial Day Kickoff 50.&nbsp; Two-time and defending KOD champion Cleveland already has three wins in weekly local track competition in New York State.&nbsp; Sunn won the KOD Memorial Day event at Devil\u2019s Bowl last year in a shocking upset over nine-time track champion Kenny Tremont Jr., and he was a runaway winner in his qualifying heat at the track\u2019s season opener last weekend before rain postponed the feature race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cleveland, Sunn, and Tremont will all be in attendance on Sunday, and they\u2019ll have plenty of competition.&nbsp; Drivers from Devil\u2019s Bowl and several other tracks in Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and New Jersey have expressed interest in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Racing on Sunday begins at 6:00 p.m. and includes the Sprint Cars of New England tour and Devil\u2019s Bowl\u2019s weekly Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint divisions.&nbsp; General admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors (62+), and free for kids age 12 and under.&nbsp; In case of rain on Sunday, the entire event will be moved to Monday, May 27 at 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The King of Dirt Racing Series has announced that it will return to a more familiar championship points format in 2019, as the previously announced \u201cContenders Series\u201d has been dropped.&nbsp; A traditional season-long structure will crown the KOD champion based on points earned at all events, and the champion will earn $2,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The schedule is currently three big-money events: Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway hosts the KOD Crate Modifieds on May 26 and August 11, and the Northeast Crate Nationals are at Fonda (N.Y.)
