Hoar won his first career Super Late Model pole earlier in the day when he won the first of three heat races to set the 31-car field, and he led on two different occasions for a total of 15 laps in the event. It was awesome in practice. One of the things, when you start up front on the pole at a place like Oxford, it’s so tough. You get caught up in the battles for the lead and its so easy to burn your tires up. That’s what we did.

“I tried not to – I tried to back it off and let somebody else lead – but in the end, a couple of the guys came from the back and had been more patient, had more tire left, had a little bit better car, I don’t know. But we still had a pretty good car. It was a lot of fun.

DID YOU LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT RACING THESE SUPER LATE MODELS TONIGHT”

“There’s no question. The car was great – it really was. Again, it goes back to trying to find that balance to start that race with. You don’t ever know. We might have been a little bit off, but wee weren’t that far off.

“More or less, I think I just burned it up. A lot of other guys did the same thing – but a couple of guys in front of us, they just had more left. It was good, though.
