Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway and Sugar &#038; Spice Restaurant are teaming up to host the first pancake and Vermont maple syrup eating contest ever held at a stock car track on Friday, August 24.<\/p>\n<p>In a Vermont-themed upgrade on the annual hot dog eating contest on Coney Island, Sugar &#038; Spice \u2013 an authentic sugar house, restaurant, and gift shop located on Route 4 in Mendon, VT near the Pico and Killington ski resorts \u2013 will host the preliminary qualifying round on Saturday, August 18 at 9:00am.  The contest will pit eager eaters against each other in five-minute showdowns; the three contestants who are able to pack away the most pancakes in five minutes will qualify for the finale.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoey Chestnut and Kobayahsi can eat all the hot dogs they want, but they\u2019ve got nothing on our pancake-crazed race fans,\u201d Devil\u2019s Bowl media director Justin St. Louis said.  \u201cAnyone can eat 70 hot dogs.  This is real food.  This is an endless stack of homemade pancakes and real Vermont maple syrup from Sugar &#038; Spice.  We\u2019re not messing around here\u2026 although it probably will be a little messy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only the first 50 registrants will be eligible to compete in the qualifying round.  Competitors may be any age, size, or shape, and can enter at Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway at \u2018Family Fun Friday\u2019 on August 3 or at Sugar &#038; Spice any time through Saturday, August 11.  There is no charge to enter, but a $5.00 donation to benefit the annual Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser at Sugar &#038; Spice is encouraged.  The three contestants who qualify on August 18 will square off in the championship round against three special guests at Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway on Sugar &#038; Spice Night, Friday, August 24.  The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to Sugar &#038; Spice; the runner-up will win a $50 certificate, and third-place will receive a $25 certificate.<\/p>\n<p>The contest will be part of a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program featuring the next-to-last championship event of 2012 for the Bond Auto Parts Modified and J&#038;S Steel Late Model divisions.  General admission for the stock car racing and breakfast-destroying spectacular is just $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and free for kids 12 and under.  Gates open at 5:00pm, racing begins at 7:30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway is in action this Friday, August 3, for \u201cFamily Fun Friday\u201d featuring twin 20-lap Modified features, a special 30-lap Bomber race, Late Models, Renegades, and kids\u2019 racecar rides.  General admission tickets are $15 for adults and are buy-one-get-one-free.  Kids\u2019 rides will be from 6:45pm to 7:15pm, followed by racing at 7:30pm.
