It has a huge history. It’s big. In my mind, I have a tendency to try not make these races too big – you don’t want to put too much pressure on yourself in big races – but with the Milk Bowl, it’s probably a couple of my three most memorable Victory Lanes in my career. Emotionally, it’s been huge for me.

“I think the look on people’s face when they win the Milk Bowl – pictures from Victory Lane or when they’re first climbing out of their car – that’s what says something. It’s big. It’s big for the team. It’s just huge. It’s pretty awesome. There’s a ton of media attention, and there’s alway a huge crowd of people, and it’s always fun to race in front of that.”

On how hard it is to win the Milk Bowl: “It’s a tough race to win. It’s not one race, it’s three races. It’s like a mini championship day. It’s tough to win. Some years, it’s a high-point total that wins it and some years it’s a low-point total. You just never know.

“It’s just a tough race because of the format. Somebody made a point (this week) that I won the race last year with 12 points. I won the first and third segments and finished 10th in the second segment. To have had a perfect low score (of three points), I would have had to pass 20 more cars during the day. Basically, I would have had to pass 10 more cars in the second segment – but that would have put me 10 spots further back in the third segment, so it’s another 10 cars I would have had to pass.

“That’s how hard it is to win the Milk Bowl.”

On the $50,000 bonus being awarded this year to any driver who can win all three Milk Bowl segments, which hasn’t been done since Robbie Crouch did it in 1986: “I don’t know if it changes everything, but does it factor in your mind because it’s a lot of money? Is it a big enough bonus that it gets you thinking about how it would be possible? Hell yeah. Of course, after the first segment is over, it goes out the window for everybody but one guy.

“Obviously, to win the bonus, you win the race. But to just try and win the bonus, does it affect your chances to win the race? Yes. It could change the way you race, and you could put yourself in a bad spot trying to make something like that happen.”

UP NEXT
The ACT Late Model Tour heads to the final event of the 2012 season with the Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburg, N.Y., on Saturday, October 6… Brian Hoar trails leader Wayne Helliwell by eight points heading into the final race of the season.

RPM Motorsports: 50th Annual Milk Bowl Brian Hoar Thunder Road Race Preview Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., will attempt to become only the second four-time champion of the prestigious People’s United Milk Bowl on Sunday, September 30, at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt.
