\nFull Field Of Late Models Expected At Unity Raceway October 13-14<\/strong><\/p>\n

UNITY, Maine \u2013 A pair of track champions highlight the list of entries for the the New England Auto Parts Late Model 100, the main event of the annual season-ending Long John Weekend at Unity Raceway this weekend, October 13-14. Both 2012 Unity Raceway Late Model champion and three-time Long John 100 winner Jeff Burgess have already registered for the $1,500-to-win event.<\/p>\n

A total of six divisions return to the track to represent the best of stock car racing in the state of Maine. Track owner Ralph Nason believes it could be the most competitive Long John 100 in years.
\n<\/p>\n

\u201cJust look at the names of drivers that have already entered,\u201d Nason said. \u201cThese guys have all won races at Unity, and you know that they will all to whatever it takes to win a race like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nason is partnering with Speedway 95 owner Del Merritt to promote the annual exclamation point on Maine’s stock-car racing season. The Long John Weekend begins Saturday, October 13, with open practice for all divisions from 12-6 p.m. After a short practice round on Sunday, October 14, racing will kick off at noon with qualifying and feature racing in six divisions, including the New England Auto Parts Late Model 100, a 50-lap Wildcat\/Strictly Stock main event and the Wicked Good Vintage Racers.<\/p>\n

In the unique \u201cWheel Of Fortune\u201d feature race \u2013 which requires drivers to make 360-degree turns around an obstacle on the track’s frontstretch \u2013 longtime Unity Raceway supporter and \u201cMainely Motorsports\u201d television personality Steve Perry has filed an entry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it will be a lot of fun,\u201d Perry said. \u201cThe folks at Unity Raceway are pouring a lot of time and effort into making the Long John a success again this year, and I’m excited to go there and be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A total of more than $3,000 in purse money will be paid to Long John feature winners over the course of the weekend. Competitors who pre-registered prior to October 1 in any division are guaranteed a starting spot in their respective feature, with pre-registration for Late Models limited to the first 30 pre-registrants.<\/p>\n

In addition to the regularly schedule feature races, any Teen division drivers from Unity Raceway or Speedway 95 will be eligible to compete in the Sport 4\/Monsta Mini event. All purse money will be paid immediately following racing on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The following events will be held on Sunday of Long John Weekend:<\/p>\n

100-lap feature for New England Auto Parts Late Model division ($1500-to-win)
\n50-lap feature for Pit Stop Convenience Store & Liquidation Center Wildcat\/Strictly Stock division ($500-to-win)
\n25-lap feature for Tire King of Skowhegan Sport 4\/Monsta Mini division ($250-to-win)*
\n25-lap feature for Folsom & Sons Bombers\/Flyin 4 division ($250-to-win)*
\n20-lap \u201cWheel Of Fortune\u201d feature for Enduro division
\nWicked Good Vintage Racers
\n* If 20 or more cars enter in these divisions, the feature distance will be 50 laps.<\/p>\n

Pit admission for practice only on Saturday, October 13, is $20, and tires and fuel will be available for all teams. Grandstand admission for Sunday, October 14, is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-11 and free for children 5 and under. Pit admission is $30 for Sunday, and gates open at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
