When the 15-year-old Canaan Fair Speedway Rookie of the Year attempts to qualify at Airborne on Saturday, October 6, it will provide her the chance to make her first career ACT Late Model Tour start while also setting the foundation for 2013.

Packard, who is attempting to qualify for an ACT race for just the second time in her career, is eager to get back on the track after getting rained out at the Milk Bowl last weekend. Her goal is to run weekly at Thunder Road International Speedbowl next season while also tackling a healthy dose of the ACT Late Model Tour schedule.

“Obviously, after this being the second time (we’ve tried to qualify for an ACT event), we’d be upset if we didn’t qualify,” Packard said. “But still, everything from September 1 on has been icing on the cake for us this season. While the flat half-mile is similar in nature to both Devil’s Bowl Speedway and her home track of Canaan, it does offer a unique set of challenges.

Part of the weekend for Packard will be spent practicing around other cars at Airborne.

“Every track has its own little thing about it that makes it great. I’m excited to get there with some other guys on the track and see how close I was when we tested.”

Last weekend at Thunder Road, Packard posted impressive practice times before changing track conditions threw a curveball at the team in qualifying for the 50th annual Milk Bowl. The way the track changed from practice to the end of the day, to me it showed that it is THE hardest track in New England.

“Having not conquered it twice now in a Late Model, it just makes me want to go back next year and get better.
