{"id":11684,"date":"2013-03-05T03:56:55","date_gmt":"2013-03-05T08:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=11684"},"modified":"2013-03-05T04:01:48","modified_gmt":"2013-03-05T09:01:48","slug":"kurt-busch-sees-top-10-performance-fade-in-phoenix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/kurt-busch-sees-top-10-performance-fade-in-phoenix\/","title":{"rendered":"Kurt Busch Sees Top-10 Performance Fade in Phoenix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/nascar\/2012 NSCS Kyle Busch Hero Pose.jpg\" alt=\"Kyle Busch NASCAR\" class='ngg-singlepic ngg-left'><br \/>\n<strong>AVONDALE, Ariz. <\/strong>(March 3, 2013) \u2013 After starting at the rear of the 43-car field due to changing to a backup car after Friday\u2019s qualifying accident, Kurt Busch was a driver on the move when the green flag dropped for Sunday\u2019s Subway Fresh Fit 500 Sprint Cup race.<\/p>\n<p>By Lap 31 he had his No. 78 Furniture Row\/Beautyrest Chevrolet SS running in the top-10 at Phoenix International Raceway\u2019s 1-mile oval.<br \/>\n <!--more--><br \/>\nHe stayed in or near the top-10 for the next 200 laps. But his smooth sailing ascent to the front suddenly took a turn for the worse, and when the checkered flag waved Busch was credited with a 27th-place finish.<\/p>\n<p><br ><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe went from a smooth-running top-10 car to a disheartening finish,\u201d said Busch.<br \/>\n\u201cToo many things went wrong on that long green-flag run towards the end of the race.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When the caution came out on Lap 236 of the scheduled 312-lap race, Busch was positioned in 11th place. He came down pit road for two left-side tires, fuel and an air pressure and chassis adjustment.<\/p>\n<p>When the race was restarted on Lap 242, he was sitting in 16th place.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t get the car to take off on the restart,\u201d noted Busch.<br \/>\n\u201cLooking back it was the beginning of the end.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was apparent from that point Busch was wrestling with the car\u2019s handling. And a short time after the restart, he brushed the concrete wall, causing serious aerodynamic damage along the right-side of the car. The damage from the impact ended any hope of getting back to the front.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt was like a switch flipped and we had a completely different car,\u201d stated Busch.<br \/>\n\u201cWe had no zip and we paid the price. After Daytona, and now Phoenix, we\u2019re being tested. But we had enough positive flashes the past two weeks to know that we can run up front.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Busch\u2019s next test in the Furniture Row Chevrolet will be Sunday (March 10) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n<p>The Phoenix Race winner was:  Carl Edwards.
