This Sunday afternoon April 13, it\u2019s the Midwest\u2019s first major asphalt race of the season, with the running of the 37th Annual Spring Classic, featuring the Big 8 Late Models presented by Gandrud Chevrolet. Sunday\u2019s Spring Classic again looks to be a \u201cClash of the Champions,\u201d with over 30 track and series championships represented between 35 pre entrants. 2013 Rockford Speedway Track Champion Alex Papini is the defending race winner, while \u2018Driver X\u2019 Jon Reynolds Jr has won three of the last four Big 8 races on the high banks. Other local favorites joining Reynolds and Papini this weekend include seven-time track champions Ricky Bilderback and Bobby Wilberg, along with 2010 Track Champion Tim Sargent. Drivers from as far away as Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and Indiana will also be at Rockford Speedway Sunday, with their eyes on the prize. The Mid American Stock Car Series and Illinois Vintage Racers are also set compete at Spring Classic. Gates open at 11 AM Sunday, with the first race going green at 1 PM. Adult admission is $20, Students 12-17 are $10, Children 6-11 are $5, with kids 5 and under free!

\n67th SEASON OPENER SET FOR NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next Saturday April 19 officially kicks off another season of NASCAR Whelen All American Series Racing at Rockford Speedway, with the Mountain Dew Kickstart 67th Season Opener! The first Saturday night race of 2014 features the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and Kickstart Roadrunners along with the Sam\u2019s Drive-In Roadrunner Challenge \u2018Driver\/Fan Easter Egg Toss.\u2019 Gates open at 5 PM next Saturday night, with the Stateline Staffing Services Fast Dashes going green at 7:07 PM. Adult admission is $12, Students 12-17 are $8, children 6-11 are $5 with Kids 5 and under FREE! Before all the action \u2018under the lights\u2019 next Saturday night, all race fans are invited to Onyx Bar & Grill (located one mile west of the Speedway at the corner of Highways 251 & 173 in Machesney Crossing) for the Preseason Car Show! The Car Show, which begins at 11 AM, gives fans an up-close look at the very racecars that will take to the track later that evening! Fans are also invited inside ONYX during the show to enjoy the wide variety of items on the lunch menu AND to vote for the \u201cBest Appearing Car\u201d at the Preseason Car Show. The winner of \u201cBest Appearing\u201d will receive a huge prize pack, including a Kickstart pullover, two Mtn. Dew display chairs, two 12pks of Kickstart, four can koozies and $50 in restaurant gift cards! The winner of \u201cBest Appearing\u201d will be announced during pre-race ceremonies Saturday night.<\/p>\n
