Waterford, CT (May 29, 2014) \u2013 Waterford Speedbowl management announced
\ntoday the creation of a new position, penalties following Saturday, May
\n24th\u2019s racing program, and the departure of one member of their staff.
\nThe new position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator has been created. The
\nsole responsibility of the newly created position will be overseeing that
\nall cars participating in the Speedbowl\u2019s track race divisions are
\ncompliant with track mandated safety regulations. The position will be
\nfilled on an interim basis by veteran Speedbowl competitor Bill Leonard.
\nCandidates are currently being sought to fill the position moving forward.
\n The position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator will report directly to
\nthe Race Director, Patrick Williams.<\/p>\n
As a result of inspections during the May 24th race program, SK Modified\u00ae
\ndivision competitors Craig Lutz and Keith Rocco were each fined $500.00
\nfor failure to abide by rule 2.11.5 D of the Speedbowl rulebook. The rule
\nrequires the use of wheel tethers on the front wheels of SK Modified\u00ae
\ncars.<\/p>\n
Also announced today was the departure of long time SK Modified\u00ae division
\ntech inspector Everett Marvin.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe take safety very seriously at the Speedbowl, but despite our best
\nintentions things were obviously overlooked by us as well as the racers
\ninvolved\u201d said Speedbowl owner Terry Eames. \u201cWe know Bill Leonard will
\ncreate a system of safety verification that will prevent this from
\nhappening again\u201d Eames continued. \u201cToday\u2019s announcements are in line with
\nwhere we intend to be\u201d.<\/p>\n
The position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator will be in place beginning
