Packard’s success in previous weeks was pushed out of her head and she was focused on the task of the day. Starting 8th in the heat and only 10 laps to work with, Packard found herself held up in traffic but finishing in 5th place. This gave her a +3, which was enough to score her the pole for the consolation race. “10 laps is not enough time to pass,” said Packard. “I found myself stuck in traffic, and was just not able to gain one more position.”

Starting on the pole for the consolation race, Packard wasted no time in checking out from the field, and won the race, securing her a starting spot in the Spring Green 114 race. “We got to start on the pole for the consolation race thanks to a good +/- finish in the heat race,” Packard said. “We were able to run away with it and win it.”
When the teams rolled off for the green flag, Packard started in the 4th position and unable to get down into the bottom groove to pass, immediately fell back to 14th place. “We were fighting the car all day, it just did not want to handle for me,” said Packard about fighting with a tight race car. “The track was greasy, and the guys tightened the car up too much after the consi, and I struggled to stay on the bottom during the race.”

Packard, determined not to give up, took her time and picked off cars one by one, trying to get as many positions as she could. During a restart Packard was marred behind two lapped cars and lost 4 spots, but settled in and moved her way back towards the front. On lap 100 Packard was in 10th position, but cautions and lapped cars continued to play a role in her progress.
