CHARLOTTE, NC (August 11) \u2013 With a slight reprieve in sight from the scorching summer heat that has gripped the South this year, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model teams are busily preparing for their annual August trip to South Boston Speedway this weekend. The venerable Virginia short track has hosted the South\u2019s top Super Late Model series since 2006. Adding to this Saturday night\u2019s slate of action will be Twin 75\u2019s for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks.<\/p>\n

South Boston Speedway\u2019s 4\/10 mile layout and multiple grooves of racing always provide for top flight action when the PASS South Super Late Models come to town. In the series first trip to the speedway back in June, Kyle Busch Motorsports\u2019 driver Kaz Grala withstood a late-race challenge from Jared Fryar and Clay Rogers to take the win.
\n<\/p>\n

Fryar, who lives in Trinity, NC, returns to South Boston Speedway brimming with confidence and a new sponsor. In the most recent PASS South Super Late Model race at Caraway Speedway in July, Fryar took the lead late from veteran Greg Marlowe to secure his first career PASS South win. Wilton Tools, a leader in industrial workholding equipment and striking tools for more than 70 years, will join Bobby Fryar Trucking and Sterling Building Group as Fryar seeks his second straight PASS South win this weekend at South Boston.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Boston is a good racetrack with two grooves and always puts on a great race,\u201d said Fryar. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of history at South Boston and there is always a great crowd of fans when PASS races there. It\u2019s one of my favorite racetracks for sure and I always enjoy racing there. Hopefully, we can get Wilton Tools a win this weekend and I can get my name on the list of winners there.\u201d<\/p>\n

A new face to PASS South making his debut this weekend will be Raleigh, NC\u2019s Deac McCaskill, who will be driving the #2 Coulter Motorsports Chevrolet. McCaskill is a longtime veteran of Late Model Stock racing, with numerous wins over the years at South Boston Speedway and track championships at Southern National Motorsports Park. This weekend\u2019s 150 lapper will be the first time McCaskill has driven a Super Late Model since 2000, but based on the results as of late, he should have a good shot at a top finish. Clay Rogers drove the Coulter Motorsports machine to podium finishes at South Boston and Anderson Motor Speedway and Joey Coulter led laps at Caraway Speedway before a brake problem ended his night early.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely excited, but also nervous about making my PASS debut at SoBo,\u201d says McCaskill. \u201cThese cars are a lot different than what I\u2019m used to and tire management is a big deal. I\u2019ve watched a lot of PASS races at SoBo over the years and I just feel really blessed to get this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

This weekend, McCaskill will partner with crew chief and longtime friend, Randy Renfrow. While it will be McCaskill\u2019s first start in a PASS Super Late Model, Renfrow has been wrenching race winning cars in the series since 2011. <\/p>\n

\u201cRandy Renfrow builds fast cars and Clay [Rogers] had a good run in it at South Boston in June,\u201d said McCaskill. \u201cI used to sit in Randy\u2019s lap when I was a few years old and hold the checkered flag, so it\u2019s real neat to get to work with him this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fryar and McCaskill will have plenty of challengers this weekend at South Boston Speedway including PASS South Super Late Model points leader, Zane Smith. Championship contenders Tate Fogleman, Jody Measamer, Matt Craig, and Jimmy Doyle will each be seeking their first wins of the season. Brandon Lynn returns after a strong run at Caraway Speedway along with veteran Brandon Ward and rookie Walker Yates.<\/p>\n

Action begins on Friday at South Boston Speedway with practice from 9 AM to 5 PM. On Saturday, pit gates open at Noon, followed by rotating practice from 2-4 PM, and qualifying at 4:45 PM. Main event racing for the PASS South Super Late Models and NASCAR Late Model Stocks will go green at 7 PM.
