{"id":20629,"date":"2016-05-23T21:07:35","date_gmt":"2016-05-24T01:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/?p=20629"},"modified":"2016-05-23T21:07:35","modified_gmt":"2016-05-24T01:07:35","slug":"pass-south-and-smrs-mods-ready-to-turn-up-horsepower-this-weekend-at-concord","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2016\/05\/pass-south-and-smrs-mods-ready-to-turn-up-horsepower-this-weekend-at-concord\/","title":{"rendered":"PASS South And SMRS Mods Ready To Turn Up Horsepower This Weekend At Concord"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_16041\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16041\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16041\" src=\"http:\/\/maineracing.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_0291-1280x853-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"PASS photo\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16041\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PASS photo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>CHARLOTTE, NC (May 23) \u2013 Following an extremely successful debut at Hickory\u2019s Easter Bunny weekend in March, southeast race fans will get a treat <span data-term=\"goog_1644678871\">this Friday<\/span> night at Concord Speedway when the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models and Southern Modified Racing Series (SMRS) compete together in a rare doubleheader.\u00a0 The Memorial Day weekend kickoff will see the two most powerful asphalt series in the South compete together for only the second time ever <span data-term=\"goog_1644678872\">on Friday<\/span> night at Concord Speedway, along with the Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Models and Mid-Atlantic Street Stocks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The South\u2019s top Super Late Model tour will be led to <span data-term=\"goog_1644678873\">Friday<\/span> night\u2019s Old Glory 125 by Kannapolis, NC teenagers, Kodie Conner and Matt Craig.\u00a0 Conner leads the PASS South Super Late Model points in his rookie season, after claiming the PASS Pro Late Model championship in 2015.\u00a0 Conner began his racing career across the street from the Concord Speedway half-mile on the quarter-mile track, racing Quarter Midgets and Bandoleros.\u00a0 He took the checkered flag in the Pro Late Model division last year at Concord and hopes that will translate into his first PASS South victory <span data-term=\"goog_1644678874\">on Friday<\/span> night.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be able to race at Concord Speedway is pretty amazing; the history that track has, many stories that people tell, make this race track more intense,\u201d says Conner, driver of the Accent Imaging\/Champion Spark Plus Chevrolet #45.\u00a0 \u201cI have raced on the quarter-mile track in the back and have always wanted to race at the half-mile and the opening last year was definitely an opportunity I could not pass up!\u00a0 The track is unique, old, and fast. The dog leg is my favorite part of the track and I really enjoy racing at the half-mile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For Craig, it is a similar story.\u00a0 He also began racing at Concord Speedway\u2019s quarter-mile, but in Legends cars.\u00a0 The family-owned C&amp;C Boilers #54 has a long and storied history at Concord Speedway, piloted by drivers like Rodney Childers, Clay Rogers, and Jeff Fultz to victory lane throughout the years.\u00a0 Craig comes to Concord this year full of optimism following his first career PASS South Super Late Model win at Caraway Speedway back in April.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConcord has been a really tough track for me to get the hang of but every Concord race has a little more hype because of the high speed racing which is very exciting,\u201d says Craig, who sits just two markers behind Conner in the race for the championship.\u00a0 \u201cI think momentum is everything in racing and we have a lot of it after a big win in the last race at Caraway.\u00a0 Now with a win under my belt, I think I&#8217;ll be a more patient and smarter driver which hopefully will propel us to victory <span data-term=\"goog_1644678875\">Friday<\/span> night at Concord.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As for the SMRS Tour Modifieds, <span data-term=\"goog_1644678876\">Friday<\/span> night\u2019s Charles Kepley Memorial 125 has all the markings of another barnburner.\u00a0 Massachusetts\u2019 driver Jonathan McKennedy has taken the first two checkered flags at Hickory and Ace, but will have his hands full as he tries to make it three wins in-a-row.\u00a0 Former North-South Shootout winner Burt Myers will be back, along with his brother, Jason, as well as former track champion Bobby Measmer, Jr.\u00a0 Cale Gale returns after a strong run at Hickory, along with Brandon Ward and James Civali, who will be making his SMRS debut in the Hillbilly Racing #79.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition, former Concord Speedway track champions Shaun Mangum and Kenny Brooks will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Model series along with a very strong group of Street Stocks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All the action gets under way on <span data-term=\"goog_1644678877\">Thursday<\/span> at Concord Speedway with open practice for all competing divisions from <span data-term=\"goog_1644678878\">3 \u2013 6 PM<\/span>.\u00a0 <span data-term=\"goog_1644678879\">On Friday<\/span>, practice will begin at <span data-term=\"goog_1644678880\">1 PM<\/span> with qualifying starting at <span data-term=\"goog_1644678881\">5 PM<\/span> for the PASS South Super Late Models, SMRS Tour Modifieds, Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Models and Street Stocks, followed by main events starting at approximately <span data-term=\"goog_1644678882\">7 PM<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PASS South Super Late Model entry forms for Caraway Speedway and the complete weekend schedule, along with entry forms for South Boston Speedway, Anderson Motor Speedway, and Hickory Motor Speedway can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Pro All
