{"id":20670,"date":"2016-06-09T11:02:57","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T15:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/16\/?p=20670"},"modified":"2016-06-09T11:02:57","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T15:02:57","slug":"young-stars-arrive-at-thunder-road-for-harvest-equipment-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/young-stars-arrive-at-thunder-road-for-harvest-equipment-event\/","title":{"rendered":"YOUNG STARS ARRIVE AT THUNDER ROAD FOR HARVEST EQUIPMENT EVENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15671\" src=\"http:\/\/maineracing.com\/16\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/thunder-e1451780097380.jpg\" alt=\"thunder\" width=\"200\" height=\"54\" \/>Waterbury, VT<\/em> \u2013 The popular win in the 54<sup>th<\/sup> running of the Memorial Day Classic,<\/p>\n<p>by Tyler Cahoon, Danville, VT was a sign of the emergence of another group of young talent that has arrived at the \u201cNation\u2019s Site of Excitement\u201d, Thunder Road Int\u2019l Speedbowl in Barre, VT.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cahoon may have won the race, but Thunder Road and race fans also look like winners with the group of talented young teams who have recently become competitive with the \u2018old guard\u2019 teams, like fellow Green Mountain veteran racers Nick Sweet, Barre; Phil Scott, Middlesex, VT; John Donahue, Graniteville, VT; Dave Whitcomb, Essex Jct., VT; Trampas Demers, Shelburne, VT and Matt White, Northfield, VT.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Joining Cahoon in victory lane were other young teams from Vermont including Scott Dragon, Milton and Jason Corliss, of Barre. Having top 10 finishes also were\u00a0 Cody Blake, Barre; Brooks Clark, Fayston; and Kyle Pembroke, Montpelier.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to watch the enthusiasm that these young teams have when they run competitively. Most have raced lots of laps at Thunder Road in some division, but to race competitively in a Late Model race that has fifty-four (54) years of history is pretty special\u201d, said former three-time track Champion, two-time Memorial Day Classic winner, and now race director at Thunder Road Cris Michaud.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The regular season steps into high gear this <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744926\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Sunday, June 12<\/span><\/span> with the rain make-up event from May 22, the Harvest Equipment Trophy Dash. The results from the June 12<sup>th<\/sup> <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744928\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Sunday<\/span><\/span> afternoon event may be a tell-tale sign of just how exciting the championship chase may be heading into the summer <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744929\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Thursday<\/span><\/span> night series, beginning <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744930\"><span class=\"aQJ\">June 16<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Cahoon is looking forward to the challenge of the 2016 season, but knows that the competition is balanced, and there are numerous unknown possibilities after his Memorial Day Classic win.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal was to win a race at T-Road this season, but I can\u2019t believe we actually won one of the most historic races held at the old girl! It has just been an unbelievable good feeling to see how many people have been excited about our run last Sunday. I hope we can continue to make everyone proud of what we hope to accomplish this summer at Thunder Road. I know one thing about race teams at \u2018TR\u2019, we can\u2019t slip up for one week or we will get way behind very quickly. I guess that is what makes it so much fun,\u201d said the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic defending champion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Harvest Equipment front ticket gates will open at <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744931\"><span class=\"aQJ\">11:00am<\/span><\/span>. Annual Kid\u2019s rides will begin at <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_631744932\"><span class=\"aQJ\">11:45<\/span><\/span>.
