15-YEAR OLDS JOEY CIPRIANO AND MATT GALKO LEADING THE RELIABLE WELDING AND
\nSPEED ROOKIE CHARGE AT STAFFORD<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Stafford Springs, CT)—With the 2010 season underway at Stafford Motor
\nSpeedway, the fight for race wins and championships is in full swing.
\nAnother race that is underway is the fight for the Reliable Welding and
\nSpeed Rookie of the Year title and a pair of 15-year old drivers are dueling
\nfor the top rookie honor in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor
\nSpeedway.
\nJoey Cipriano and Matt Galko have shown little signs of being a rookie at
\nStafford, as they have both contended for race wins and while Galko has yet
\nto have a podium finish, Cipriano has visited the podium in two of his first
\nthree starts this season. Both drivers say the early success has come as a
\nsurprise.
\n\u201cI\u2019m definitely surprised at how well we\u2019ve ran so far this year,\u201d said
\nGalko. \u201cIn the first race we were fighting for a top-3 finish and we\u2019ve
\nbeen fighting for the podium in 2 of the first three races and I never
\nexpected to be doing that right away. We\u2019re still learning and adjusting on
\nthe car every week. With being a rookie, we\u2019ve had to start in the back,
\nbuy my dad puts a great car under me and I think that if we can keep the car
\ntogether and have some luck fall our way, we can definitely get our first
\nwin pretty soon.\u201d
\n\u201cIt\u2019s been a big surprise to me,\u201d said Cipriano. \u201cWe almost won the second
\ntime we went out, it\u2019s all been a big shock to me. I think we\u2019re pretty
\ngood on setup, but I\u2019m still learning things about the track and how to
\npass. We have an in-car camera in the car each week and when I wake up on
\nSaturday I hook it up to the TV and I watch the race to see if there was
\nanything that I could have done differently. I probably watch the tape 4 or
\n5 times before we get back to the track the next Friday. I also watch guys
\nlike Ted Christopher and Ryan Preece during the SK\u00ae race to see if there is
\nanything I can learn from them.\u201d
\nWhile each driver realizes that they still face a learning curve, the
\nexpectations that both drivers have for themselves have gone up
\nexponentially at the start of the 2010 season.
\n\u201cComing into this year, we thought we could get some top-10 finishes and
\nmaybe a top-5 or a top-3 by the end of the year, we didn\u2019t expect to be
\nbattling for podium finishes,\u201d said Galko. \u201cThis season has been a blast so
\nfar, it\u2019s the most fun I\u2019ve ever had driving a car. It\u2019s been great to race
\nwith Joey Cipriano as well as the veteran guys like Teddy Cain and Jay Goff.
\nWe\u2019ve had some good finishes so far and now we want to get our first win and
\nat least get a top-3 finish so we can be interviewed at the end of the
\n race.\u201d
\n\u201cOur goals coming into the season were to win a race and win Rookie of the
\nYear,\u201d said Cipriano. \u201cThe past two races have been a big confidence boost
\nfor me knowing that we have what it takes to run up front. Right now we\u2019re
\nhappy with where we\u2019re at, we\u2019re not thinking about the championship or
\nanything like that, we\u2019re just focused on getting a win and winning Rookie
\nof the Year.\u201d
\nWhile Cipriano has seemingly had a smooth ride thusfar during the 2010
\nseason, Galko\u2019s ride has been a bit bumpy to say the least.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve lost power steering in the car the last two weeks,\u201d said Galko. \u201cThe
\nnight we had the 30-lap race, the power steering went out on lap-5, so that
\nwas a tough race and I was definitely a little sore the next day. Last week
\nthe car was loose and the car has fallen off at the end of the race all
\nthree weeks, so I think that if we can get the power steering working and we
\ncan keep gaining on the chassis, I think our first win isn\u2019t far away.\u201d
\nIf the first three weeks of the 2010 season are any indication, the battle
\nfor the 2010 SK Light Modified Reliable Welding and Speed Rookie of the Year
\nhonors is going to be a great race to watch all summer long at Stafford
\nMotor Speedway.
