Cayea smokes Airborne Mods for 1st career win<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Plattsburgh \u2013 Chris Cayea of Mooers pulled away from the field with the Begor\u2019s Supply No. 18 in the closing laps of the 30-lap Modified main event to claim his first career win at Airborne Speedway.<\/p>\n

Cayea\u2019s win came soon after Jamy Begor had held off Bucko Branham to score his first win of the season in the J&S Steel Sportsman feature.<\/p>\n

Cayea started on the outside of early leader Andy Heywood after a red flag was thrown on lap when Todd Ormsby spun out and flames appeared underneath his car. Heywood soon began losing the handle and Cayea snatched the lead on lap 18 while Craig Reyell, Bryant Trim and Jason Durgan battled hard for second. That trio managed to stop point leader Patrick Dupree\u2019s run to the front from 14th. Dupree got a wheel under Durgan for fourth, but Durgan regained the spot and eventually wound up third at Trim\u2019s bumper.

\nCraig Reyell came away with fifth, giving him, as well as Cayea and Trim, a seasonal best.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my fourth year trying,\u201d Cayea said. \u201cThis is a hard place to win. Track position and racing in clean air really helped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin Roy, Vince Quenneville, Maxime Viens, Heywood and Don Scarborough filled the second half of the top ten. Twenty-six DIRTcar Modifieds took the green. It was the first feature of the year in which both Dupree and Roy found the going tough position by position.<\/p>\n

In the J&S Steel 25-lap Sportsman feature, Begor drew off to a commanding lead, but a yellow with three laps left erased his lead. He led Branham to the line by three feet on lap 23 and then benefitted when Branham came under attack from Tylor Terry. Branham, Terry, Bill Thwaites and Jim Bushey finished 2-3-4-5.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to dedicate this win to Mike Watts, our track photographer,\u201d Begor said. \u201cHe\u2019s been an important part of Airborne for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

After taking the lead five laps into the Monster Energy Bomber 30-lap feature, Bill Joyal was untouchable. It was Joyal\u2019s fourth win. Josh LaPorte, Bill Desotell and point leader Josh Durivage finished nose-to-tail for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Scott Richner was fifth.<\/p>\n

Renegade feature winner Chad Provost of Peru used three cautions to his advantage and passed Keith O\u2019Neill for the lead at the halfway mark. Provost led by a foot on lap 15, a wheel on lap 16 and half a car-length on lap 17. Robert Gordon of Milton, VT was the runner-up. Cody Benoit of Milton came from the back of the pack to finish third.<\/p>\n

Steven Bresette won the NAPA Mini-Modified feature, besting Rick Doner and Justin Doner, Jim Collins and Speedy Bresette.<\/p>\n
