Blewett has won a
race at Stafford in each of the last two seasons and has been in contention
for victory in each of the Whelen Modified Tour’s first two visits of the
2010 season. Blewett finished second to Bobby Santos in the May TSI
Harley-Davidson 125 and finished 15th in the CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring
Sizzler after hitting the wall on the final lap of the race while running in
the top-3.
“I always enjoy coming to Stafford, it’s one of my favorite tracks,” said
Blewett. “We’re coming back with the same car and engine combination that
we’ve had two strong runs at Stafford with so far. At the Sizzler, that was
just hard racing at the end of the race, and then in May, we had a flat tire
while we were racing with Bobby [Santos] for the win. I’ve never come to
Stafford with the same setup twice in the car until this year. We had a
strong run at the Sizzler and we’ve tweaked on the car a little since then,
but we’re working off of the same base setup and we’re looking forward to
another strong run. I wish I could have run this well in the SK at
Stafford.”
Blewett’s strong efforts at Stafford this season come as a continuation of
success at the Nutmeg half-mile for the New Jersey native. Blewett won the
Town Fair Tire 150 two years ago and last year he led 97 of 101 laps en
route to taking the checkered flag in the TSI Harley-Davidson Classic.
Blewett knows what it takes to reach victory lane at Stafford and he hopes
to parlay that strategy into a visit to victory lane for the third
consecutive season.
“We’re going to go with the same strategy we’ve been using at Stafford,
which is be patient at the start of the race and try to get into the top-5
or top-3 to be a contender for the win at the end of the race,” said
Blewett. “Stafford is a track that you can win a race at either by taking
tires or by staying out and not taking tires. Going into the race our plan
is to go the whole race without pitting, but that can change with track
position, what the leader does, and where we are in the race.”
In addition to his track knowledge and car setup, Blewett says that there is
another factor at Stafford that helps him get to the front.
“I love the fans at Stafford,” says Blewett. “Whenever we come to Stafford,
there always seems to be more excitement from the fans than the other tracks
that we go to. If you run well at Stafford, they appreciate your effort
that much more. Stafford is one of the few tracks where as I’m walking up
to the press box that I have fans stopping me to tell me congratulations or
nice run.”
Tickets for the 20th Annual Town Fair Tire 150 are on sale now at the
Speedway Box Office and are price at $30.00 for adult general admission
tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are
admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
