Rain and damp weather delayed the events on Saturday while bright sunshine was the order of the day on Sunday.

In the end, John Flemming (#97x) of Halifax captured the Pro Stock 150 on Sunday while Calvin Rankin (#45) of Quispamsis , NB was the big winner in Saturday’s Sportsman 100 event. Other winners included veteran Rick Cashol (#54) of Saint John, NB who captured the Streetstock 75 event, Martin Landry (#00) of Grand Barachois who repeated as Atlantic Mini Stock champion and Mike Weagle (#17) of Petitcodiac who borrowed a car to capture the Atlantic Four Fun division championship.

In Sunday’s Pro Stock 150, defending Atlantic champion Kirk Thibeau (#28) of Fort Fairfield , Maine and Jonathan Hickey (#5) of Montague , PEI had two of the fastest cars in the final event of the two-day weekend but it was John Flemming (#97) of Halifax who ended up with the victory when all the dust and technical inspections had been completed. Thibeau, who crossed the finish line in first position after methodically making his way through the 19-car field from near the back of the pack, was eventually disqualified after failing the post-race technical inspection, handing the victory to Flemming who had crossed the stripe in second. Meanwhile, Hicken, who had battled and exchanged the lead with Thibeau for most of the event, ended up claiming third behind Wayne Smith (#44) of Timberlea, NS after both he and Smith made contact with 5 laps remaining sending both to the back of the lead lap for the late race restart. The feature’s two pole sitters by virtue of their earlier heat wins, Mike Kyle (#12) of Berwick, NB and Kevin Moore (#88) of Fredericton, NB, both saw their afternoon’s quickly turn sour in the 100-lap main event when Moore’s racecar suffered what appeared to be serious rear end damage on lap #2 moments after he had taken an early lead while Kyle suffered a similar fate on lap #3 when he was caught up in a three-car pile-up on the front straightaway. Kyle was done for the day while Moore miraculously returned two laps later finishing a very respectable eight.

Sunday’s Streetstock 75 saw veteran Saint John, NB driver Rick Cashol (#54) add yet another award to his trophy case when he captured the Atlantic Streetstock main event ahead of Joey Rudderham (#67) of Sydney, NS and Mike Francis (#23) of Oromocto, NB. Cashol, who methodically made his way through the 28-car field to challenge for the lead by lap #25, waged a fierce battle throughout the event with pole-sitter Rudderham. On lap #54, Cashol was able to squeeze through a small opening low in lap traffic to muscle his way ahead of Rudderham – a position who would hold until the checkered flew. Cashol’s win also broke a three-year domination by Cape Breton area drivers in this event. Earlier heat winners included Rudderham and fellow Caper and defending event champion, Jamie Vassallo (#38) of Glace Bay , NS .

In Saturday’s Sportsman 100, a total of 49 Sportsman division drivers from through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, along with one driver from Newfoundland and Labrador, attempted to capture one of the 27 starting positions in the main feature. In the end, the Atlantic championship stayed in the Rankin family from the Saint John , NB area when Calvin Rankin (#45) of Quispamsis stood in the same victory lane as had his cousin John Rankin of Saint John 12 months prior with the first place trophy in hand. Rankin, who started the event in third position thanks to his earlier heat win, made his way up to second position by lap #19. Then, on lap #37, early leader Cal Hatfield (#11) of Rothesay , NB experienced race-ending mechanical problems handing the lead to Rankin on the yellow-flag restart. Over the next 18 laps, Rankin battled hard with Glynn Nott Jr. (#12) of Centre Burton, NB with Nott eventually getting around him on a lap #55 restart Twenty laps later, it was Rankin’s turn to once again regain the lead from Nott – a lead which he maintained to the checkered crossing the line ahead of Nott and rookie sensation Steve Halpin (#03) of Saint John. Other earlier heat winners included Nott, Hatfield and Aaron Boutilier (#4) of Porter’s Lake , NS . In Sunday’s Sportsman action, Craig Ward (#02) of Riverview capped off a tremendous 2010 season with a win in the Sportsman 50 Consolation feature, crossing the stripe ahead of Jacob Logan (#37) of Harvey, NB and Fred Broussard (#76) of Sydney, NS.

Saturday’s Four Fun 75 saw a surprise replacement driver capture the win in convincing fashion as Mike Weagle of Petitcodiac , NB borrowed Eldon Campbell’s ( Moncton ) racecar and completed the event by lapping every other racecar in the 26-car event. Weagle, who started on the outside of the front row thanks to his earlier heat win, inherited the lead for good on lap #7 of the event when pole sitter Justin MacDonald (#7) of Hammond Plains, NS was forced to the pit area with a fluid leak. Weagle never looked back and weaved his way inside and outside the field in dominating fashion to eventually cross the stripe ahead of the last car that had yet been lapped, Lynden MacDougall (#18) of Sydney , NS and Andrew Warren (#85) of Halifax , NS . MacDonald had also captured an earlier heat win to claim the pole for the main event.

In Saturday’s Mini Stock 25, Martin Landry (#00) of Grand Barachois became the only driver to successfully defend his 2009 Atlantic Championship when he captured the win in the 15-car event ahead of Bob Prosser (#5x) of Turtle Creek, NB and Adam Vassallo (#31) of North Sydney, NS.

The final event of the 2010 season at the Centre for Speed will be the Monster Truck Nationals and Demolition Championships, which are set to rumble on Saturday, October 16 (Rain or Shine), starting at 1:00 p.m. The event will feature an on-track autograph session followed by ‘car-crushing, high flying’ Monster Truck action starting at 2:00 p.m. This not-to-be missed event will feature six top-level, 1,800 horsepower Monster Trucks, as seen on the Speed Network, in side-by-side car-obstacle course racing, as well as freestyle and wheelie competitions.
