2010 SENIOR OUTLAW CHAMPION DYLAN KOPEC MOVING TO SK LIGHTS AT STAFFORD FOR

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Reigning Wild Thing Kart Senior Outlaw champion
\nDylan Kopec will be making a step up in competition for the 2011 season,
\nmoving from the Wild Thing Kart ranks into Stafford Speedway\u2019s SK Light
\nModified division.
\nKopec scored 6 wins this year in the Wild Thing Kart Series, run on Monday
\nnights at Stafford on the track\u2019s mini mile. Kopec was in a see-saw duel
\nwith David Arute for much of the 2010 season and the two drivers headed into
\nthe final race of the season tied in points. Kopec won the race to give him
\nthe championship and now has his sights set on Stafford\u2019s SK Light Modified
\ndivision.
\n\u201cI\u2019m real excited about moving up to the SK Lights,\u201d said Kopec. \u201cThe only
\ngoal I have for myself is to keep the car in one piece and finish the
\nseason. It doesn\u2019t really matter where I end up, I just want to be able to
\nfinish the year and not wreck the car. I\u2019m just going to try to get as much
\nseat time as I can and learn about the car.\u201d
\nKopec is the son of former Whelen Modified Tour driver Chris Kopec, who has
\n2 career Whelen Modified Tour victories. While Kopec has many laps around
\nthe mini-mile at Stafford, he has no experience on the half-mile; Kopec says
\nhaving his father as a source of information will be a key factor in his
\nrookie season.
\n\u201cMy dad knows how to set the car up, so I know it\u2019s going to run good,\u201d said
\nKopec. \u201cThe only time I\u2019ve been out on the big track was when I took my dad
\n\u2019s truck around a couple of times, so it\u2019s going to be a learning process
\nand it will be pretty important for me to have my dad around.\u201d
\nKopec won\u2019t be the only graduate of the Wild Thing Karts seated in an SK
\nLight Modified during the 2011 season at Stafford. Kopec will be joined in
\nthe 2011 rookie class by Jesse Ruocco, who he competed against in the Senior
\nOutlaw division. SK Light Modified driver Kyle Spencer is also a former
\nWild Thing Kart competitor.
\n\u201cThe only person that I\u2019ve raced against before is Jesse Ruocco, so I\u2019ll
\nhave to learn the track and the other drivers,\u201d said Kopec.
\nKopec also has his sights set on moving up the ladder at Stafford as well.
\n\u201c\u201cDepending on how well we do, we might eventually make the move up to the
\nSK Modified\u00ae division, that\u2019s where I\u2019d like to be racing someday,\u201d said
\nKopec.
\nKopec will look to make his SK Light Modified debut at the season opening
\nCARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler, scheduled for April 29-May 1. The SK
\nLights will be joined by the Whelen Modified Tour as well as Stafford\u2019s
\nother four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. Tickets for the
\n\u201cGreatest Race in the History of Spring\u201d are on sale now at the Speedway Box
\nOffice. Tickets are priced at $35.00 for adult general admission tickets,
\n$5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted
\nfree of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is priced at
\n$38.00 for all ages. As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking
\nwith overnight parking available.
