{"id":4211,"date":"2011-01-26T20:07:27","date_gmt":"2011-01-27T01:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-01-26T20:07:27","modified_gmt":"2011-01-27T01:07:27","slug":"airborne-boosts-sportsman-%e2%80%9c4-20%e2%80%99s%e2%80%9d-purse-point-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/airborne-boosts-sportsman-%e2%80%9c4-20%e2%80%99s%e2%80%9d-purse-point-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Airborne boosts Sportsman \u201c4-20\u2019s\u201d purse and point fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Airborne boosts Sportsman \u201c4-20\u2019s\u201d purse and point fund  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Plattsburgh, NY \u2013 Airborne Speedway has announced that J&#038;S Steel of Plattsburgh has renewed its sponsorship of the Sportsman division for the 2011 stock car racing season.<\/p>\n<p>J&#038;S Steel, Vermont Life Safety and Airborne Marketing Manager Sherm Hamel have arranged to double last year\u2019s payout for the Sportsman headliner \u201c4-20\u2019s\u201d event and create a $1,000 point fund lottery.<br \/>\nThe Vermont Life Safety 4-20\u2019s race, set for August 13, consists of four 20-lap sprints, each now increased to pay $500 for 1st place. The line-up for successive legs of the race is set by inverting the previous order of finish. The overall event winner, determined by the lowest total of combined finishes, also earns $500.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cThe Sportsmen are a pretty competitive division,\u201d Hamel said, \u201cbut if someone can win every segment, they can go home with $2,500.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>J&#038;S Steel will provide a year-end bonus to the division\u2019s point fund. \u201cWe\u2019ll have a drawing among the top ten drivers and the winner will walk away with a $1,000,\u201d owner Jeff Sears pledged. \u201cAll of us at J&#038;S Steel are looking forward to the 2011 racing season at Airborne Speedway. I think 2010 was the best year ever at the speedway. The whole Airborne staff really goes out of their way to bring quality family entertainment to the Plattsburgh area. We are very proud to represent the Sportsman division and add some extra incentive for the racers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh was the overall  \u201c4-20\u2019s\u201d winner in 2010, edging out track champion Robin Wood and rookie Bill Thwaits, who dropped out with electrical failure on the last lap.<\/p>\n<p>The Champlain Valley Motorsports Show at Plattsburgh\u2019s Crete Civic Center is scheduled for Friday and Saturday April 14, 15.
