{"id":4731,"date":"2011-04-04T06:51:52","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T11:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-04-03T21:53:44","modified_gmt":"2011-04-04T02:53:44","slug":"dirt-midget-association-schedules-races-bear-ridge-speedway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/dirt-midget-association-schedules-races-bear-ridge-speedway\/","title":{"rendered":"Dirt Midget Association Schedules Five Races at Bear Ridge Speedway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dirt Midget Association Schedules Five Races at Bear Ridge Speedway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BY MARK McKEON<\/p>\n<p>ELLINGTON, CT \u2013 The Dirt Midget Association (DMA) has reached an agreement with Bear Ridge Speedway owner and operator Butch Elms for a five race schedule at the legendary Bradford, VT dirt track.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled that Bear Ridge is taking us in,\u201d said DRA member Skip Matczak.  \u201cButch Elms is a racer\u2019s racer and we appreciate his confidence in our efforts. We have 19 cars registered so far and we\u2019re looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans at Bear Ridge.\u201d<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe DMA is in its first season of presenting traditional, non-winged Midget auto racing and evolved from the Quad 4 Midgets which ran at Whip City Speedway for the last several years. <\/p>\n<p>Three members of the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame are active in the DMA.  In addition to car owner Matczak, Hall of Famers Denny Zimmerman and Ray Miller will be racing the full DMA schedule this year.  Zimmerman is a former Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year and Miller is former winner of the Thompson 300, a three time winner of the Ferrara 100 at Stafford Motor Speedway, as well as numerous other prestigious Modified Stock Car events.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to trying his hand back behind the throttle, Miller will be fielding two additional cars.  \u201cI really want to do everything I can to support this group,\u201d Miller says.  \u201cWe had a setback when Big Daddy\u2019s closed and Whip City is uncertain, but things are starting to come together now with these dates at Bear Ridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among those joining Zimmerman and Miller behind the wheel of a DMA Midget are former Empire Super Sprints star Scott Holcomb,  2010 Whip City Champion Joe Krawiec and 30 time Quad 4 Midget feature winner Scott Viets.<\/p>\n<p>The first DRA show at Bear Ridge Speedway is set for Saturday May 28, with additional Saturday shows on June 18, July 16, August 20 and September 10.  Nationally known as \u201cThe Home of the Coupes\u201d Bear Ridge Speedway is the only track in New England with Modified Sportsmen sanctioned by DIRTCar, a division of World Racing Group, the parent organization of the World of Outlaws.<\/p>\n<p>DMA is currently negotiating with other venues and additional dates may be announced soon.
