{"id":5075,"date":"2011-05-05T18:45:45","date_gmt":"2011-05-05T23:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-05-05T17:57:16","modified_gmt":"2011-05-05T22:57:16","slug":"formula-hybrid-finishes-nhms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/05\/formula-hybrid-finishes-nhms\/","title":{"rendered":"Formula Hybrid Finishes Up at NHMS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty teams from around the world wrapped up the fifth annual Formula Hybrid competition at New Hampshire Motor Speedway yesterday, with Texas A&#038;M University dominating the three-day event.<\/p>\n<p>Led by team advisor Dr. Make McDermott, Texas A&#038;M were victorious in two of the four events including the acceleration and autocross contests.<\/p>\n<p>Brigham Young University took home second place, winning the presentation and endurance segments of the competition.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThird place went to Sweden\u2019s Lund University.  Sweden won the design portion of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The top-six finishers included: Texas A&#038;M University, Brigham Young University, Lund University, University of California-Davis, Dartmouth College and Canada&#8217;s McGill University.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, the Formula Hybrid Competition is a design and engineering challenge for undergraduate and graduate university students.  Participants must tackle the difficult task of designing, building, and competing in an open-wheel, single-seat, plug-in hybrid racecar. <\/p>\n<p>Students work throughout the year on ways to make a difference in everyone&#8217;s life by opening doors to alternative energy and reducing fuel consumption without giving up performance and reliability.<\/p>\n<p>The teams will now head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500 Emerging Tech Day on Saturday.
