(Stafford Springs, CT)—After taking a hiatus from racing, Dan Avery
\nreturned to SK Modified\u00ae competition last year at Stafford and he finished
\nthe season in 7th place in points. The 2011 season has seen Avery and the
\n#10 Budweiser team establish themselves as one of the division front runners
\nwith top-3 finishes in each of the first three races. Avery is currently
\nsitting third in the SK Modified\u00ae points standings, only 8 points behind
\nleader Ryan Preece.
\n
\n\u201cWe\u2019re happy with the consistency we\u2019ve showed so far this year,\u201d said
\nAvery. \u201cWe still need to step our game up a little to beat the guys like
\nRyan Preece, Keith Rocco, and Ted Christopher, but we\u2019re getting the car a
\nlittle better every week. We\u2019ve been a little tight in the turns, so each
\nweek we\u2019re getting the car a little bit looser, but we don\u2019t want to make
\nthe car too loose. Right now we\u2019re real close, it\u2019s a fine line. I think
\nthat if we can get another tenth of a second out of the car, we\u2019ll be right
\nthere with those guys racing for wins. We\u2019ve made a couple more changes to
\nthe car for this week, so we\u2019ll see how that works out for us.\u201d
\nIn addition to sponsorship from Budweiser through Hartford Distributors,
\nAvery also carries sponsorship from Trantolo & Trantolo, Picci Plumbing &
\nHeating, and National Industrial Supply. While Avery has won in the SK
\nModified\u00ae division at Stafford previously, it has been nearly 20 years since
\nhe visited victory lane behind the wheel of an SK Modified\u00ae car. Avery was
\npart of the driver crop during the inaugural season of SK Modified\u00ae
\ncompetition all the way back in 1982 and he won 2 of the first three races
\nthe division ever ran at Stafford. With how the team is running this year,
\nAvery feels like his third career SK Modified\u00ae victory is just around the
\ncorner.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re knocking on the door and I feel with confidence that we can get a
\ncouple of wins this year,\u201d said Avery. \u201cLast year was a kind of getting
\nback in the saddle kind of year to get used to things again. The cars in
\nthe SK Modified\u00ae division are so equal that when you start getting into the
\ntop-5 runners, the cars are only separated by a tenth of a second. If we
\ncan find that extra tenth in our car, we can be right there contending for
\nwins. Ryan, Keith, and Teddy have all showed that they\u2019re real fast this
\nyear, and those are the guys we have to catch up to. We don\u2019t want to back
\ninto a win, we want to be able to go out there and take a win. The
\ncompetition at Stafford is really tough, it\u2019s not a cakewalk by any means.\u201d
\nWith another tenth of a second or two, combined with a little racing luck,
\nAvery just may find his way back to CARQUEST Victory Lane for the first time
\nin nearly 20 years.<\/p>\n
Avery\u2019s quest to return to victory lane continues Friday, May 20th as
\nStafford Speedway hosts Whelen Event Night. Tickets for the May 20th Whelen
\nEvent Night program are priced at $15.00 for adult general admission
\ntickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and free for children ages 5 & under.
