South Plattsburgh, NY \u2013 Defending International Supermodified Association (ISMA) champion Russ Wood\u2019s attempt for a repeat win at Airborne Speedway Saturday, July 23, he\u2019ll get stiff opposition from two of the Northeast\u2019s most accomplished racers.<\/p>\n
Chris Perley of Rowley, Mass., the all-time ISMA win leader and six-time champion, will make his first appearance on the progressively-banked Airborne half-mile. Perley drives the Vic Miller Shea Concrete No. 11.

\nHe\u2019ll be joined by Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., who will be at the wheel of Clyde Booth\u2019s No. 61 machine. Christopher is best known as a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competitor, but he\u2019s won in everything from a quarter-midget to a Supermodifed. He\u2019s the winningest driver in Stafford Motor Speedway history, a former Whelen Modified Tour champion and a five-time Modified winner on the Magic Mile at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to racing at Airborne,\u201d Perley said. \u201cI\u2019ve heard nothing but good things about it. We\u2019ll have to see if we can keep up with \u201cWoody\u201d.<\/p>\n
Christopher was a near winner when ISMA came to Stafford in May, but he lost horsepower late in the race and Perley reeled him in after passing Wood in lapped traffic.<\/p>\n
During ISMA\u2019s inaugural visit in 2010, Rob Summers set an Airborne track record in his qualifying heat when he turned a lap time of 14.023 \u2013 115 mph. Wood won the main event with a last lap pass of Justin Belfiore, a victory that was pivotal in earning his seventh ISMA crown.<\/p>\n
Post time for the Della Auto Group\/Northline Utilities event is 50-lap is 6 p.m. Barring any major accidents at Oswego Speedway the night before, Wood, Perley, Christopher and Belfiore will go at it against the likes of Summers, Bobby Magner, Canadians Mike Lichty and Mark Sammut, Tim Jedrzejek of Independence, Ohio and NEMA Midget champion Ben Seitz of Bourne, Mass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
