{"id":6334,"date":"2011-07-18T20:48:38","date_gmt":"2011-07-19T00:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-07-18T20:48:38","modified_gmt":"2011-07-19T00:48:38","slug":"stewart-records-aow-modified-grand-slam-smith-picks-straight-feature-win-cfs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/stewart-records-aow-modified-grand-slam-smith-picks-straight-feature-win-cfs\/","title":{"rendered":"STEWART RECORDS AOW MODIFIED GRAND SLAM WHILE  SMITH PICKS UP SECOND STRAIGHT FEATURE WIN AT CFS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>STEWART RECORDS AOW MODIFIED GRAND SLAM WHILE  SMITH PICKS UP SECOND STRAIGHT FEATURE WIN AT CFS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Shediac, N.B.)  &#8212; Shelly Stewart (#43) of Emerald, PEI showed the boys how to get it done by recording a grand slam during the Area Food Bank Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW) Modified stock car racing event held at the Centre for Speed\u2019s (CFS) in Grand Barachois, N.B. on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, James Smith (#50) of Riverview picked up his second career feature win in the 35-lap Shediac Sportsman \/ Streetstock to go along with a first place finish in the heat.<br \/>\n <!--more--><br \/>\nIn Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW) Modified action, Stewart who was a regular Street Stock competitor at CFS a few years ago, picked up her first feature win in the 35-lap feature thanks to a great jump on the green flag to start the event. Stewart, who started the race on the outside front row, powered quickly into turn #1 to take the lead from pole sitter Doug Matchett (#75) of Miramichi and then, she never looked back. However, Jamie Brown (#48) of St. Martins, N.B. did make it interesting in the later stages of the event when he challenged Stewart for the lead over the final few laps, but the PEI driver was able to hold off Brown at the finish line with Jamie Weston (#22) also of St. Martin\u2019s coming home in third. Stewart had earlier captured<br \/>\n wins in the 10-lap first heat and  the 12-lap semi-final while Paul Costain (#64) of Moncton was the winner of the second heat.<\/p>\n<p>In Shediac Sportsman \/ Streetstock action, James \u2018Cooter\u2019 Smith (#50) of Riverview followed up his first career feature win last week with his second main event win in a row after a hard-fought battle with rookie Martin Landry (#00) of Grand Barachois. Landry, who had earlier recorded his first ever division win in the semi-final, led the most laps in the main event, but had to settled for second after Smith got a great jump on the green flag during a late-race restart. Tyler Rossiter (#14) of Weldon, N.B. took home the third place hardware.<\/p>\n<p>It was also an afternoon to remember for Justin MacDonald (#7) of Springhill, N.S. who recorded his first career feature win in the 35-lap Four Fun division main event to go along with a win in the semi-final and a second place finish in the heat. In the feature, MacDonald crossed the stripe ahead of Kyle MacMillan (#5) of Hammonds Plains, N.S. and last week\u2019s feature winner Brandon Skidmore (#4) Springhill, N.S. Meanwhile, Scott Hall (#98) of Sackville was victorious in the 10-lap heat. <\/p>\n<p>In Mini Stock action, Julien Leblanc (#07) of Haute Aboujagane picked up his third feature win of the season in the 35-lap main event after coming home second in the heat and third in the semi-final.
