Each year since<br \/>\n2000, Herzig organizes the family friendly Wishes On Wheels Convoy on the<br \/>\nthird Sunday in September.  To date, Wishes On Wheels has raised in excess<br \/>\nof $670,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of CT.  Most recently Herzig was<br \/>\ninvolved in the CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event held at Stafford<br \/>\nSpeedway.  He assisted Keith Rocco in raising funds for Make-A-Wish of CT<br \/>\nfor the Charity event, and together they raised $4,230 for the Wishes on<br \/>\nWheels program.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cWe believe Keith Herzig exemplifies the true meaning of the Betty Jane<br \/>\nFrance Humanitarian Award,\u201d said Stafford Speedway Executive Vice President<br \/>\n\/ CFO Lisa Arute.  \u201cThrough his Wishes on Wheels event, Keith has<br \/>\ndemonstrated an ongoing commitment to the Make-A-Wish foundation of<br \/>\nConnecticut and has helped grant over 100 wishes to Connecticut children<br \/>\nwith life-threatening illnesses.  His volunteerism and charitable work has<br \/>\nmade a significant impact on the lives of children and Stafford Speedway is<br \/>\nproud to be affiliated with Keith and Wishes on Wheels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen years ago, as an owner-operator truck driver, Herzig participated<br \/>\nin a small truck convoy in Massachusetts and immediately felt the need to do<br \/>\nsomething similar in Connecticut.  In September of 2000, he organized a<br \/>\nsmall group of close friends in the trucking industry for the first convoy.<br \/>\nWith help from the CT State Police, Department of Motor Vehicles, and FedEx<br \/>\nof Willington, CT, he held the first Wishes on Wheels Fund-raiser for<br \/>\nMake-A-Wish of CT.  The inaugural Wishes On Wheels convoy hosted 160 trucks<br \/>\nand the event has grown to a staggering 490 trucks.  Herzig hopes with the<br \/>\nsupport of the community he will be able to meet an ambitious goal of<br \/>\nraising $1,000,000 by the 15th anniversary of the convoy.<\/p>\n<p>Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical<br \/>\nconditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.<br \/>\nAccording to the National Make-A-Wish President, David Williams, a child&#8217;s<br \/>\nwish is granted once every 40 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>As part of The NASCAR Foundation\u2019s new NASCAR Unites campaign, the Betty<br \/>\nJane France Humanitarian Award has been established to pay tribute to Mrs.<br \/>\nFrance\u2019s philanthropic efforts and to acknowledge fans who share Mrs. France<br \/>\n\u2019s same spirit of generosity.  Applicants for the Betty Jane France<br \/>\nHumanitarian Award will be narrowed down to four finalists and then the four<br \/>\nfinalists will be featured in an online vote and a text-to-vote campaign to<br \/>\ndetermine the winner.
