Current point leader Patrick Dupree, seeking to repeat as Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified champion, pitted mid-race to tend to a broken suspension part and settled for a 12th-place finish. Dupree leads Roy 428-400. George Foley is third in points (378).

Grady held off Leon Gonyo for a career-best second-place finish. Pole sitter Chris Cayea, in the top five throughout, placed fourth. Andy Heywood was fifth. Positions 6-10 went to Pat McGrail, Craig Reyell, Max Viens, Vince Quenneville and Aaron Bartemy.

Roy, driving the Gamache Truck Center No. 90, started 12th and quickly improved to 7th with a timely switch into the low lane. On the race’s second restart on lap 13, he took over fourth, passed Gonyo for third a lap later and then set sail for Cayea.

A final caution was out on lap 27 when Andy Lindeman’s machine went up in smoke.

“My plan was to pass [Grady] on the outside groove,” Roy said. “The car was very good on the outside. When I saw the yellow flag on lap 27, I was still comfortable that we had a good enough car to win.”

“We should have had them before, but we’ve been cutting tires,” said Steve Morin, crew chief on Roy’s No. 90 Gamache Truck Center car. “This caution tonight on lap 27 was like a nightmare had come back again, but it was all good. We had to adjust the car to the track. The track changes constantly every week and that adjustment paid off tonight.”

Cayea, Gonyo and George Foley won the Modified heats.

Two cautions late in the 25-lap Sportsman feature gave Bucko Branham the chance he needed to score his third win. Branham gained four positions in eight laps and was third when the first yellow came out on lap 19. He passed Tylor Terry and then Travis Bruno to gain the lead with two to go. It was Branham’s third win of the year at the wheel of the Bud Light/Marsha Homes No. 20.

Robert Gordon of Milton, Vt. won his sixth Renegade feature of the season after swapping the lead repeatedly with Joe Daniels. Gordon’s winning margin was two feet. Josh Terry was a close third. Daniels was leading by 10 car-lengths before back-to-back cautions with 10 laps to go. Gordon cleared Daniels once on the high side, but Daniels led at the line by inches on lap 23. Joe Warren and Andy Bordeau finished 4-5.

“In most of the years I’ve been racing, two or three wins meant you had a very good season,” Gordon said. “To win six times is amazing.”

Johnmichael Bresette of Keeseville won his second straight Busch Bomber feature. Travis Sherman, Curtis Lagrave, Josh Durivage and Tyler Crary completed th top five.

Josh LaPorte won the NAPA Mini Modified feature. Speedy Bresette took over the championship points lead by finishing second just ahead of Erick Sayles in 3rd.

MODIFIEDS
1 Martin Roy
2 Cam Grady
3 Leon Gonyo
4 Chris Cayea
5 Andy Heywood
6 Pat McGrail
7 Craig Reyell
8 Max Viens
9 Vince Quenneville
10 Aaron Bartemy
11 George Foley
12 Patrick Dupree
13 Dan Brown
14 Matt Woodruff
15 Mike Phinney
16 Richard Tisseur
17 Mike Reyell
18 Bryant Trim
19 Kris Vernold
20 Don Scarborough
21 Rodger Labreche
22 Mikhail Labreche
23 Andy Lindeman
24 Dave Snow
25 Jimmy Ryan
26 Jason Bruno
27 Jim McComb
28 Greg Atkins

Roy back in Airborne title chase with 2nd win South Plattsburgh – Martin Roy took the lead from upset-minded Cam Grady on a lap-18 restart and drove off to his second DIRTcar Modified win of the season Saturday at Airborne Speedway.
