The popular Tour-Type Modifieds will make their final appearance of the year this Thursday, August 18th, at the Thompson International Speedway. This event will kick off an amazing run for Modified race cars at the Connecticut oval. In three of the next four weeks, Thompson will be the center of Modified racing action which will also include the Valenti Modified Racing Series and the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours Showdown.

USG, NASCAR’s official building products supplier, will present the Tour-Type Modified night which will be the third in a three-race series at Thompson. Round one was won by Todd Szegedy with the second event claimed by Ryan Preece. While both Szegedy and Preece will be looking to become two-time winners, drivers like Mike Stefanik, Steven Reed, Keith Rocco and many others are looking to win the 40-lap shootout. The Tour-type Modifieds will be joined by Thompson’s own NASCAR Whelen All-American “Super 6” divisions for a full night of exciting oval track racing.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series (VMRS) rolls into Thompson on August 25th for its second appearance of the year. The defending race winner, Mike Stefanik, will lead an impressive contingent like the one that thrilled fans back in June. Lisbon, CT ace, Chris Pasteryak, has moved into the top spot in the VMRS points chase with Les Hinkley and Rowan Pennink in hot pursuit. The Thompson 75-lap race on August 25th could be pivotal in the Series championship drive and everyone is expected to arrive with their “A Game” tucked in their tool boxes.

The weekend of September 10th and 11th, the most anticipated racing event in years, the UNOH Showdown, will command the attention of everyone in the northeast’s racing community. The (UNOH) Showdown at Thompson is, by far, the most talked about and most anticipated Modified race in years. The UNOH Showdown is a first-time-ever event for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. “It has taken three years to put this amazing event together, but as the date nears, everything seems to be falling into place very nicely,” said track owner Don Hoenig.

The race format is unique. Each individual tour will compete in its own 125-lap feature event. Then, the best of each tour will be combined for a $50,000+, 50-lap Showdown. “An event of this nature has never been run before. But, with the cooperation of NASCAR and the Directors of each of the Tours, we are confident that this will be a very special event. No matter where I go, people are talking about the Showdown and that has us all excited about the success of this event and its potential in the years to come. We have a very nice lap sponsorships program available for both businesses and individuals. All one needs to do is contact the track office to join in on this exciting program,” said Hoenig. Tickets are also available for purchase by contacting the track office. 860-923-2280.

Full schedule details on all three of these exciting race events are available on the Thompson web site. www.thompsonspeedway.com

MODIFIEDS DOMINATE THOMPSON SCHEDULE THOMPSON, CT.
