{"id":6897,"date":"2011-08-22T20:20:59","date_gmt":"2011-08-23T00:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-08-22T21:22:10","modified_gmt":"2011-08-23T01:22:10","slug":"hinckley-helps-point-lead-seekonk-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/hinckley-helps-point-lead-seekonk-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Hinckley Helps Point Lead With Seekonk Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seekonk, MA \u2013 Les Hinckley, of Windsor Locks, CT., passed<br \/>\nrace leader Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT., on lap 78, to go<br \/>\non and win the Valenti Modified Racing Series \u201cSeekonk 100\u201d<br \/>\nSaturday night at Seekonk Speedway, Seekonk, MA<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nHinckley started 14th in a 19 car field and methodically worked<br \/>\nhis way to second to battle with Jarvis. The second generation<br \/>\ndriver raced with the Vermont hot shoe for six laps before passing<br \/>\nhim for the lead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started deep in the field and it\u2019s always gratifying passing a<br \/>\nlot of race cars. We had a little trouble in the heat race that put us<br \/>\nto the back for the feature but I knew we had a good piece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Early on in the race, very spirited battles took place between<br \/>\nseveral drivers. Hinckley feels you need to be aware of what is<br \/>\nhappening toward the front of the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to keep a balance between what\u2019s going on in front of<br \/>\nyou and beyond,\u201d he said, \u201cI saw some cars banging and you have<br \/>\nto be careful. Coming up through you have to be on your toes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis, who has run selected events this season, finished second.<br \/>\n\u201cThe boys (crew) did a helluva job getting the car set-up for<br \/>\nme,\u201d he said. \u201cLes did a good job, I didn\u2019t realize he was that close.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t have a lot of radio chatter on my radio, I like to drive the<br \/>\ncar myself. He got by me, I thought at the end I would get<br \/>\nback by him, but he was good,\u201d he said. \u201c He is a good clean<br \/>\ndriver that you can run on the outside. It was fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon,CT., finished a solid third after starting outside front row and running in the top four throughout the 100- lap race. \u201cWe ended up a little tight and it really went away at the end<br \/>\nbut it was a fun race,\u201d he said, \u201cCongratulations to Les and Dwight, they both had good cars tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The victory, Hinckley\u2019s second this season, was his third win at<br \/>\nthe famed 1\/3 mile speedway and his 15th career VMRS win.<\/p>\n<p>Hinckley joins Pasteryak as the only two-time winners this season. <\/p>\n<p>Joey Jarvis, Ascutney, drove to a solid fourth place finish, with<br \/>\nNorman Wrenn, of Nashua, NH., rounding out the top five.<br \/>\nSixth through tenth were; Mike Holdridge, Jimmy Kuhn, Joe<br \/>\nDoucette, Jack Bateman, and Rowan Pennink. The Pennink<br \/>\nteam changed an engine prior to qualifying and started last in<br \/>\nthe 19 -car field.<\/p>\n<p>Hinckley entered the race only 6 points ahead of Chris Pasteryak,<br \/>\nof Lisbon, CT., as the two Connecticut drivers have emerged as the<br \/>\ntwo contenders that will battle it out for the series title. Hinckley<br \/>\nis vying for his first series championship.
