{"id":8476,"date":"2011-11-28T21:49:35","date_gmt":"2011-11-29T02:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/?p=9076"},"modified":"2011-11-30T21:50:30","modified_gmt":"2011-12-01T02:50:30","slug":"lee-usa-speedway-2011-awards-banquet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newenglandracingnews.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/lee-usa-speedway-2011-awards-banquet\/","title":{"rendered":"LEE USA SPEEDWAY 2011 AWARDS BANQUET"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/maineracer.com\/images\/LEE-USA.jpg\" alt=\"LEE USA\" \/><br \/>\nManchester, NH &#8211; Lee USA Speedway celebrated the annual Banquet of Champions<br \/>\nSaturday night, crowning 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block<br \/>\nSupermodified champ Wayne Helliwell, Jr. after his fourth consecutive<br \/>\nchampionship season.<\/p>\n<p>Helliwell&#8217;s prior titles had come behind the wheel of full-bodied Late<br \/>\nModels and Sportsmen, this was his first competing in an open-wheeled Small<br \/>\nBlock Supermodified.  Helliwell teamed up with Supermodified veterans Ed and<br \/>\nBob Witkum to take the wheel for the 2011 campaign, and it paid off with<br \/>\nanother championship trophy.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe other 2011 track championship hardware was awarded to second-generation<br \/>\nracer Ryan Green in the Late Model Sportsmen, four-time feature winner Mark<br \/>\nParenteau in the Hobby Stocks, and Troy Washburn in the Ironman division.<\/p>\n<p>Second through tenth place trophies for the Small Block Supermodifieds were<br \/>\npresented to Dave Sanborn, Tommy Tombarello, Jr., Ben Tinker, Mike Ordway,<br \/>\nJr., Tony Carroll, Matt Riley, Matt Seavey, Sparky MacIver, and Jim Barker.<\/p>\n<p>Special awards in the Supers included Rookie of the Year to Jim Barker, Hard<br \/>\nLuck to Ben Tinker, Most Improved Driver to Tony Carroll, Sportsmanship to<br \/>\nDave Sanborn, and Best Team Performance to Witkum Brothers Racing.<\/p>\n<p>Lee and Sharon Weldy were on hand representing Prime Storage for the<br \/>\npresentations in the Late Model Sportsmen, with Michele Fushpanski, Timmy<br \/>\nJohnson, Bobby Melvin, Tony Kawejsza, Kayla Cazares, Mike Mitchell, Josh<br \/>\nBall, Brian Grantz, and Jimmy Renfrew honored for second through tenth.<\/p>\n<p>Late Model Sportsman special awards went to teenage co-Rookies of the Year<br \/>\nKayla Cazares and Josh Ball, Hard Luck winner Tony Kawejsza, Most Improved<br \/>\nDriver Timmy Johnson, Sportsmanship award winner Michele Fushpanski, and<br \/>\nBest Team Performance went to Ryan Green.<\/p>\n<p>David&#8217;s Race Cars and Components presented Hobby Stock hardware to Mike<br \/>\nWilliams, Jim Piaseczny, Steve Douphinette, Steve Dubois, Patrick Tanguay,<br \/>\nEric Hoffman, Bobby Glass, Brian DeStefano, and Brian Thompson for finishing<br \/>\nsecond through tenth.<\/p>\n<p>Myra Fowler and Michele Fushpanski presented on behalf of Lee USA Speedway<br \/>\nto Bobby Glass with a beautiful rocking chair to commemorate his retirement<br \/>\nafter some fifty years behind the wheel.  DeStefano claimed Rookie of the<br \/>\nYear honors, with Williams taking the Hard Luck award, Douphinette picking<br \/>\nup Most Improved Driver, Piaseczny honored for Sportsmanship, and Parenteau<br \/>\nscoring Best Team Performance.<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Roy&#8217;s eight-win season brought him second in the Ironman season<br \/>\nstandings and Best Team Performance, followed by Kale Billings,<br \/>\nSportsmanship winner Jake Rheaume, Rookie of the Year Danielle Simoneau,<br \/>\nMost Improved Driver Evan Horvath, Hard Luck winner Justin Dawalga, Mike<br \/>\nOlson, Louis Lanctot, and Jeff Nadeau.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester, NH &#8211; Lee USA Speedway celebrated the annual Banquet of Champions Saturday night, crowning 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block Supermodified champ Wayne Helliwell, Jr. after his fourth consecutive championship season.
