Pro-4 Modified Limited champion Stan Mertz is paired with
the Connecticut chapter of Autism Speaks and his donation total will be
getting a boost from Stafford DARE Stock driver Kris Fluckiger. Fluckiger
will donate all his prize winnings from the season opening CARQUEST Tech-Net
Spring Sizzler through the June 29th Friday night race towards Mertz’s total
for Autism Speaks.

“I’m going to donate all of my winnings from the Sizzler to June 29 to Stan
and Autism Speaks,” said Fluckiger. “I really wanted to do something like
this last year, but Donny Lia had a scheduling conflict and Stan was a last
minute fill-in, so we didn’t get to do anything. My little brother is
autistic, so this is a personal thing for me. I just hope that we have a
better start to the season than we did last year and we can hopefully get a
win or two in there and give Stan a nice boost to his starting position for
the race. It’s all going to a great cause and if anyone wants to match my
total to Autism Speaks, they’re more than welcome to join in.”

In his rookie season of DARE Stock competition last season, Fluckiger
finished in the top-10 in 18 of the 19 races held during the year. With 4
of those top-10 finishes being top-5 finishes, Fluckiger has a good
foundation to build on as he looks to finish up front every week to raise
the most money for his Autism Speaks donation.

“We finished in the top-5 in 4 of the last 6 races of the year and it wasn’t
until the Fall Final that we really hit on something with the setup,” said
Fluckiger. “If we can get the car handling this year like we had it at the
Fall Final, the car will be a rocket ship and we’ll be able to give Autism
Speaks a nice donation. The key is going to be keeping the nose on the car
clean and hopefully we can avoid having a brutal sophomore outing this
season.”

While Fluckiger finished 5th in the points standings last season, he is
still in search of his first feature victory and he thinks that he can be a
championship contender this season.

“We have the same equipment as last season, Barry Fluckiger from Fluckiger
Race Chassis is helping us out with the setup, we refreshed our R.A.D.
Automachine engine, and I have great support from Star Hardware, Star
Rentals, Jay’s Auto, and Rob Roy Electric, so we think we can win this
year,” said Fluckiger. “I’d like to think we’re going to go for the
championship this year, but that won’t be easy, there’s a really tough field
this year in the DARE division. There’s about 8 or 9 cars that are going to
be good and running up front every week.”

To join Fluckiger in making a donation to The Conn. Chapter of Autism Speaks
on behalf of Stan Mertz, and for more information on the event, please refer
to the CARQUEST Champions for Charities donation page located at
www.staffordspeedway.com.

CARQUEST Champions For Charities is part of CARQUEST Super Saturday, which
will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2012 and feature the ISMA Super
Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, and Pro-4 Modifieds in addition to the Senior
Outlaw Wild Thing Karts.
